I've had them all... That's a very nice price. If you can afford it and want to try one, now's your chance. I love mine.

mhood, do you have any problems casting yours? Any warranty issues? What type/size line do you use? Thanks for your help.

Ensignjason, I did see it at Gander Mountain, they must have a bunch of them, I did not buy it, just checking with others who may own one. It is a well made reel.

mhood, do you have any problems casting yours? Any warranty issues? What type/size line do you use? Thanks for your help. No problems at all. I have had the Calcutta 100, 200 and 250 DCs and sold the 200 to help with a Calais DC7. Never any problems of any kind with the reels. No warranty issues because I haven't tried to use the warranty on any of them. I use 30# Power Pro on the Calais DC7, 10# Yozuri Soft on the Calcutta 100DC and 20# Yozuri Soft on the Calcutta 250DC (it's for swimbaits). All of these DC reels are incredible performers...awesome casting machines. I think everybody should own at least one. The 200DC will be a fine all purpose reel that will be exceptional with weights in the 3/8 - 1 oz. range. The Calcutta DCs are IMO, the finest crank bait reels on the planet. You can't go wrong really...you'll love the reel.

Hey MHood-- When I got my Calais DC I registered it with Shimano and they said it was the platinum registration thing blah blah and that I would receive discounts on cleaning and other stuff but as of yet nada--you got anything from them yet?

Actually, I saved a whole lot of money by buying my first one from a person who took very good care of the reel ("as new") and my second one for even less on ebay. I never did register either of them.
Truth is though, I would probably never send a reel to anyone but my fishing buddy in San Angelo. He is the best and services and tunes all my reels.
I've been told that Shimano is very lenient with folks about warranty and working on their DC reels but (thank goodness) I have never had to find this out.

I just got a Calcutta TE100DC a few weeks ago, and up to this point, all I've done is spooled it with 12# Yozuri Hybrid and casted it around in the backyard a little bit. All signs point to this being an EXCELLENT reel though. It casts great, smoothest reel I've ever felt, and it's very palmable for a round reel.
It will get a real test this weekend on Toledo Bend...but I think it'll be up to the challenge and then some...

I really hate being deaf (I played a mean guitar when I was a kid) because I just don't hear the Calcutta DC's "song". Folks tell me that all the DCs make a special whine sound as the generator in the spool is spinning but I've never heard it.

If you can afford it...everyone ought to have at least one DC. If you don't like it, you'll be able to unload it for most if not all it cost you. Don't beat it up and don't lose the box...
