American Rod Smiths has the new Judy Wong Series and have a girls perspective on fishing tackle. I painted a cheep reel pink for my daughter and got her a judy wong series rod and she loves them.

I would say buy the Judy Wong model from American Rodsmiths...
They are seems to be a nicely built rod and if she does not like it you can exchange it or hell use it yourself. If you can stomach the pink/purple. They have them at Academy.
For a reel I would get the lightest smallest reel possible that again if she cant hang with it you can use it... Just get some of the pink reel handle grips and she will be able to look past the color I bet. If you buy a reel just because it is pink I bet you end up with a piece of [censored].
Regards

I was in Dick's sporting goods yesterday at NE Mall in Hurst and saw some rod & reel combos that looked kinda Girlie to me but I didn't really check them out that close.

I'm the luckiest man alive! My wife actually likes to fish, and I think she's as excited about getting into some tournaments as I am! Her one requirement... she wants "girlie" gear and equipment. I found Fishergirl.com and they sell some pink rods but I'm also looking for pink tackle boxes, etc. etc. for her. I explained that the fish don't care what color the rod and reel are, but she wants it to "look pretty" on the water. Does anyone know of some more companies that carry "girlie" fishing gear I could look into? I want to keep her excited about this, because as long as she's happy and gets what she wants... so do I! (come on bass boat...) Don't get to excited about boat, after all it may be pink.......

LOL, She likes blue boats, so I think I'm ok there. (and she really wants a pontoon boat) I really like the rod/reel combos on Fishergirl.com, especially the price ($39.99). Since I'm not sure how long she'll be doing this, I don't want to drop hundreds of dollars on pink rod/reel combos just yet. We'll see what she thinks when I buy her one. I'm only going to start with one and she can use a couple of mine for backups. After all, she can only cast one at a time!

I second the "Judy Wong" series. My wife has 3 of them; a topwater, and 2 MH's, great rods. They are marked $129. But the last one we got (month ago) scanned for $69. Nothing different than any other medium quality rod that I can see, handle seems to be same diameter as my Castaway's & Kistler's. Just the color, not bad looking, a metallic purple. I like it better than some other colored rods out there, ie. E-21 "carrot stik", or that pea green color St. Croix has/had.

Judy Wong has a great rod, I have one myself. There is another called Pink Lady by American Rodsmith. In fact both rods are by American Rodsmith. I love my Judy Wong rod, but have not seen the other one in person.

The underline theme seems to be if its pink, its girly, am I correct?
Change here course of thinking. Get here to focus on what women love, clothes! And in this case, the clothes she should wear.
Once her mind is focused on that, get her to comit that the gear is your department.

yep you can't see a rod and reel from a distance anyway. Gear for smaller hands you might check out the youth series from quantum. I think they call it version 1.0 and 2.0. It is scaled down versions of the high end baitcasters and spinning reels to fit smaller hands.

I'd much rather pick my battles more carefully, like whether we get a pontoon boat or I get my bass boat... Wise choice.

I have a wife that is the same way...She has got to have her pink stuff. I will tell you that finding pink stuff is hard but seems to be getting easier. The deal is that you just always have to have your eye out for it everytime you go to the fishing section. One time at Academy I found a black and pink soft cloth\tray tackle box. The American RodSmith "Pink Lady" is a nice rod. That is the next item I will be buying her. She fishes with a Zebco Omega reel. I did a lot of research and have found that these reels are good for a push button. I haven't got her into baitcasters yet. Good luck on finding your stuff. It is out there...just hard to catch. If you find fishing earrings...let me know. She is looking for those. We fish the CAST tourney trail together. It is a couples tournament in Texas. http://www.fishcast.comIf you can....steer clear of the cheap pink reels. We have had problems and the wife just gets fustrated. They are cheap for a reason.

Gabe from Black Angel Jigs bought his wife a pink rod at the Claremore OK show. Might have been a American Rodsmith.
Michael at Hendrix Rods has wrapped some for ladies with Pink wrappings. They looked reel good. Someone had a post on here and showed them. I live in Crandall, and could show you a basic Hendrix Rod to get a feel for one.

I like those ugly lady sticks. I've used plenty of Ugly Sticks and really like them, the fact they've got them now in "ladies" colors is great! I sent a link to the wife to see what she thinks.

My wife has one of the Ugly Lady Pink setups and she likes it. She has caught some good size bass on this rig. She likes to fish a spinner bait on this reel.

I was at Mike last night and he can get a pink blank and make one if interested. I also saw a black with pink trim bag at Academy last night on the way back.

LOL, She likes blue boats, so I think I'm ok there. (and she really wants a pontoon boat)
All I can say is don't knock the pontoon until you have tried it. My father-in-law lives on Lake Conroe and bought a tri-toon. I was giving him a hard time about it until I fished off it. That thing is absolutely the best ride you could hope for in rough water. Water conditions that will rattle your teeth in a bass boat just give the pontoon boat a gentle sway. There is also a ton of room as you can fish from anywhere in the boat. The only drawback really is the top speed is around 35 to 40 mph. That and the stigma of piloting a pontoon boat.

Oh I'm not knocking pontoon boats by any means! I'd love to have one for taking friends out on the lake for a day of sunning, fishing, and just having a good'ol time. But knowing that any boat we purchase will be 90% fishing for me, and 10% having fun on the lake with family/friends, a bass boat is probalby my best option. She really likes the Lowe boats shown in the Cabelas 2008 Master Fishing catalog I just got this week. I'm crossing my fingers and praying... (my b-day is in one month!)

Honestly, I fly fish and have only used a spinning rod or baitcaster 2 or 3 times in the past 3 years...but those American Rodsmith "Pink Lady" rods almost make we want to put away the fly rods just so I can justify having one! Luckily though I have enough pink in my life...

The ARS Judy Wong rod and other models are on clearance at Academy for $69.88 or there abouts......If they weren't pink/purple I'd be all over them, they feel great.

Finally, a woman who understands fishing. (I hope this works - I have never posted a photo on here before.)

Sorry, it didn't work. I just learned to use photobucket for my other fishing forum. Note: this was the photo of a gal fishing in a thong bikini, with a can of Bud Lite stuck in her g-string. Cute photo.

I've seen that picture before... got it hanging on my man's room wall Well I took the wife to West Boats (Mesquite, TX), Bass Pro, Academy, and Cabelas this weekend to look at boats and rods for her. We settled and agreed to save and put a nice down payment on a bass tracker from BPS (looked at 4-5 different kinds of aluminum hulled boats) for late this year or next winter/spring. As far as rods go, she didn't like the "female" ugly sticks becasuse... and I quote... "They don't have enough pink on them." In fact, she didn't like ANY of the rods we looked at because they only have pink highlights and are not a SOLID pink color. The only one she was even remotely interested in and ultimately decided for me to go back and get her one this weekend was a bait cast combo from Academy made by (spelling?) Flugerville, Flugemeister? (Some weird name that starts with a F). She liked this combo because the rod had some gray and pink to it... but the main reason... it had a pink and gray reel she thought looked really great. At least I can say that my wife likes to fish and is encouraging me to finish my bass jon so we can get on the water. I may get really frustrated with her for picking via color and not performance, but I keep my mouth shut because I got the green light for a boat for next year! She did by the way get really excited about a bass club she found out about. On all the boats at BPS, there were these pink flyers about an all women's bass club based out of Dallas and she is 100% gung-ho about it! She's already got visions of getting sponsered and running now on the Bass Master's Tour, with yes... a PINK boat and PINK truck to pull it with.
