Just put some spider wire 15/4 on my spinning reel. This is the first time for braid on spinning gear. I have some vanish 8#. Should I use it as a leader like 20 ft or so?

When I use a leader, I only use 4-6 feet. I used it based on water clarity, but try not to use a leader too often.

Thanks I'll try with no leader except in clear water.

2-3' of leader is all you need.

I almost alway use a 4-6 ft flourocarbon leader. Just personal preference. I use an albright knot to tie the leader to the braid.

Well just make sure you put some backing on the reel first or the braid will spin on the spool and then it depends on what you are doing with the setup--a 3-4 ft leader is good, if you go much more than that it can decrease your casting some(and only sometimes) because of the knot going through the guides causes some extra resistance. I use a uni-uni knot and fluoro. If you use just braid without any leader your braid will tangle up in the lure alot.

I have no trouble with the albright knot going through the eyes. Can barely even tell when it passes through.

Uni uni knot and a drop of super glue works for me.

I prefer a longer leader - usually start with around 15' each morning. It gets a bit shorter throughout the day with each bait tied on, or broken off \:\( This allows the bait to have more momentum in the cast to pull the knot through the guides. Secondly, when a fish is at the boat I don't want the knot to be under tension - with the longer leader the knot is on the reel.

I didn't come up with this myself - got it from Yamamoto but it works for me!

The smallest knot I have used is the Alberto's knot. It is a modified Albright and needs no glue.

Hey, thanks for all the input. I'll try these techniques and see which works for my set up. This is my first attempt at braid on spinning tackle. Have always used mono before. Wish the weather would warm and get the fish biting.

I put some mono backing on before the braid. I like to tie a #7 swivel on and the 18" of leader. I can go from weightless to splt shot to dropshot easily.

The only two things I use a spinning rod for are drop shot and shakey head.

LOVE the braid and fluoro leader. These are light setups and I use the 10lb braid with 6 or 8lb leader. I second the longer leader, I use at least 2 rod lengths or 12- 15 ft. This way when fishing, the braid isn't anywhere in the strike zone to distract the fish.

Plus it's a money saver. You don't have to replace the braid very often, and you are only replacing a small amount of fluorocarbon leader each time. Spooling the whole reel with fluoro can be expensive when you drop shot a lot. The braid doesn't tangle up as much as regular line, also a bonus.

Used the braid setup for the first time today in a small pond. Wow I like it. No curls and can feel those light biters. Thanks for the tips guys.

Spinning reels and Braid are like ham and eggs, they work together very well.
