Hey there Mr. Johns, not be rude or anything, but BASS CHAMPS is there on the 23rd and Federation is on Sunday the 24th, so you will not see many postings, look after this weekend and i'm sure you will have some reports coming out, usually the Amistad Guy will have plenty of reports and if your looking for a guide, he's the man. Good Luck.

I was there Friday-Monday. Too windy to do anything but drink (in large quantities).
When able to get on the water the calm only lasted long enough to get your rain suit on and prepare for the ride home.

Going back in 10 days for one week and less wind.

I read the other response and I am wondering if any of these respondants are interested in anything other than tournaments. What happened to the days of just going fishing.

Went to Amistad last Thurs, stopped by on my way to Falcon. Did not do that well, but I talked to several people that caught fish on deep ledges about 40 ft.

The fishing overall has been pretty slow, as always some people will get on fish but over all slow. Went out monday and caught 20 keepers but no quality 2.5 lbs average. No real pattern caught them in 5 to 40 ft of water. 10" worm to dropshot. Right now the more water you cover the better. I have heard some reports of fish being caught on crankbaits on the slopeing banks but I havent tried that. Not much info but I hope that helps. The FLW was here a couple of weeks ago and only 2 huge sacks caught in 3 days by 60 pros. I would say after watching all 3 weigh-ins that the average sack was about 15lbs, not much for Amistad.

I dont believe the reason you dont see many Amistad reports is due to tournament activity alone. In my opinion the reason we dont hear much about Amistad lately is because the fishing is very tough.Nobody wants to come on here and sound negative. When you pay attention to the tournament weigh ins its evident that somethings not right. They have a little summer time trail here that was taking over 20lbs to win and I dont have statistics but it seemed like nearly half the field would weigh in 15 lbs(maybe not half but alot of 15 lb bags). This is a 3 fish tournament not 5.Something seemed to change in about October(a time of year when I would have expected the fishing to get even better).there was a major tournament(BASS federation I think)in late october or early November and the weights showed a dramitic decline. To me the decline at the time of the year with the weather we had seemed puzzling. The hydrilla didnt reach its normal growth, possibly due to abnormal influx of fresh water, colder temperatures, not enough sunshine?I think the perch and baitfish population declined along with the hydrilla and the largemouths didnt have enough forage. The sharp decline in the average 5 fish limits seemed to sudden to chalk up to fishing pressure alone. Hopefully this year we will see warmer weather and the hydrilla will get back to normal.Just my two cents and Amistad is still better than most lakes.

From what I hear you can catch bass but they are still deep. Fishing 30 or 40 ft deep is not many anglers cup of tea. We are going there the end of March, but I have had several people tell me the hydrilla already looks good. Seems like you hear one guy say hydrilla is all over and then another says its gone.

We fished the OTHER AMISTAD in the gail force winds and caught fish in 6-8' of water jigs and worms

As I used to say about most fishermen......they make up their excuses before they arrive and then carry out their desire.

Why worry about the whys and not be the expert on everything.

Horsehouppy lets go fishing and turn it into an adventure not a biological discussion.

If you want to see what can happen out there right niow, go to FLW East West and check out the tournament results. The tourn was couple weeks back and they slayed em down there. Couple stringers over 30 lbs. It is turning on down there for sure. With this warm weather is will be on. Going down this week for the Champ's tourn, things look good for this one.

I would'nt call it slaying them 2 great stringers out of 60 fishermen in 3 days. I was there all 3 days ,average stringer about 15lbs ,not great for Amistad!
