Been checking out the community lakes where I live to wet a line while waiting for warmer weather.

Made several quick trips to Celebration Park in Allen to fight a few of the Catfish in the ponds.

Been catching and releasing them consistently these past few days.

Posted pictures in the link below.

fshng84, are you seeing any carp or koi in any of the creeks and ponds you are fishing?

ScottEvil, I have not seen any Carp or Koi as of yet. Figure since I am using Corn I will eventually hook one. Will keep an eye out for them and provide updates.

FYI - I have been limiting myself to Corn and Fishing Flies for the community lakes mainly because I can keep them in my car indefinitely.

Hey Scott.
There are at least 2 Koi's at Jefferson Park in Irving. One is black and white and the other is orange and white. They will go 10 lbs each by the looks of them. I was there in the last part of November and the guy that was with me accidently foul hooked the orange and white one while Bass fishing with light tackle. That sucker took off towards MacArther and there was no turning him around. We were at the back end of the park but from what I understand they both cruise up and down the whole area.
Good Luck!

Fished Celebration Park in Allen. Caught small Sunfish and small Catfish on Corn.

Also, stopped by Bethany Lakes at Noon. Looks like fishing for Trout at Bethany will have to wait until next season. No activity at all.

Pictures posted on link below.

Fished Celebration Park's East Pond. Caught Catfish and a small Bluegill and Sunfish.

FYI - Used the Zebco Deliar; Catfish weighed 1/2 lbs. Posted pictures of the Catfish and Bluegill in the link below.

Quick notes from the field.

Checked out several community lakes in Allen. With the warm weather decided to try flyfishing for Bluegill and Sunfish. Stopped by Bethany Lakes' Back Pond and Creek, a pond recommended by one of the forum members located along North Allen Heights, Allen Station Dam, and Celebration Park's North Pond.

Caught several Bluegill and Sunfish fishing a Bead Head Gold Ribbed Hares Ear Nymph slowly on the bottom. Suspect that other nymphs would produce as well as a Wooly Bugger.

More details/pictures in the link below. All for now. Good luck and good fishing!

Fished Celebraton Park's North and East Ponds this afternoon. Caught three small Sunfish on flyfishing gear using a Prince William Nymph in the North Pond. Caught two small Bluegill using a Bread Fly in the East Pond.

Will give it a shot tomorrow and post results. Looking to hook a Catfish on a fly.

Update: Chummed the East Pond at Celebration Park with bread and started catching Bluegill and Sunfish. Catfish followed with the action remaining steady. Hooked but did not land a nice size Catfish - maybe 2-3Lbs. Kept at it for a couple of hours finally landing one on the Bread Fly. Picture posted in the link below.

Update: Fished the East Pond at Celebration Park several times at lunch this week. Have been trying to catch some of the larger Catfish. No luck in landing them yet. Regardless, the bite is steady with a few small fish landed.

Finally took one of the larger Catfish at Celebration Park's East Pond. Catfish went 20" and about 2 lbs in size. Used a Bread Fly and chummed with bread. Had to soak the bread and let it sink this time. Fish were not taking anything on the surface. Picture of the Bread Fly and Catfish posted in the link below.

Roger (Anyfish), I posted instructions on the link below. I used the largest image size available. Else, you should be able to select the illustration and print it as well.

Not the best illustrator, so I included comments.

Update: Fished Celebration Park's North Pond to test out a new fly pattern - Cigarette Egg Fly. Chummed with bread, and then casted a fly to the spot. Caught five Sunfish / Bluegill in 15" with a lot more missed strikes.

Looks as if the panfish are more active given the warmer weather.

FYI: For flyfishermen, I posted instructions on tying the fly on the link below.

Thanks for the tip BassProJD.

FYI: Stopped by Celebration Park's East Pond at lunch and after work today. Still field testing the Cigarette Egg Fly that a member of our team created.

Caught 4 Sunfish and 1 Catfish on the Cigarette Egg Fly. Pictures posted in the link below.

Plan to try other fishing areas and continue to test the fly. Will post results!

Participated in the City of McKinney Trout Derby this morning at Towne Lake. Caught five fish limit in less than 30". Opted for spinfishing gear and fished corn on the bottom on a Carolina Rig.

Returned later in the afternoon with my fishing partner. Same story, different fisherman, five fish limit on corn fished on the bottom on a Carolina Rig.

Pictures posted in link below.

Returned to Towne Lake in McKinney for another chance at Trout in the late afternoon. Started out slow with no hits on a Carolina Rigged corn but then it picked up about a half-hour later. Partner and I ended up limiting out - 10 Trout ranging from 8" to 10.5" in size. Pictures and more details posted in the link below.

FYI: Saw the Game Warden out issuing citations, so beware and heed the five fish per person daily limit and ensure you have a license.

Trout activity at Towne Lake in McKinney remains steady. Fished a Carolina Rigged Corn on the bottom and caught a 5 fish limit ranging in 7" to 9.5" in size in less than 45 minutes.

Cleaned the fish and noted the stomach contents. Most were filled with Corn. However, two Trout had a Chartreuse PowerBait Nugget along with Corn in their stomachs.

Pictures posted on the link below.

Fished Celebration Park's North Pond and caught five Bluegill / Sunfish in 15" on the Cigarette Egg Fly, fishing fly that simulates a piece of bread floating and/or sinking in the water.

The fly is tied using material from a cigarette filter and works well in community lakes and ponds.

The fish were small but still fun to play with on light tackle. Pictures posted in the link below.

Fished Friday night at Towne Lake in McKinney for Trout. Bite was slow and required trying different tactics before finally getting strikes.

Settled on fishing with bread on the bottom but without a weight. Caught 4 Trout ranging from 8.5" to 10". Posted pictures in the link below.

Fished Bethany Ridge Park pond in Allen yesterday morning to test a couple of fishing flies. Caught several Bluegill and observed a number of fingerling Catfish under the bridge that crosses the feeder creek.

Posted pictures of the fishing flies and a few Bluegill on the link below.
