Are there any ladies here who might fish in the Tyler State Park, Lake Hawkins, Gladewater Lake, Lake O The Pines area? I need someone to help me learn to fly cast. I would also like to meet a few women who like to fish, who could meet me at a lake who bank fish. Usually I take my son, but he is getting burned out a little....LOL.

If you do fish in this area, I forgot to mention you can pm me privately. Thanks.

Well, I'm not up in your area, but if you ever find yourself in the Belton, Temple or Austin area...drop me a line. I'm always up for meeting other women who like to fly fish. I also have a few extra fly fishing setups so you don't have to worry about bringing your own.
You might also look at joining the Texas Women's Fly Fishing group. They have about 4 or 5 meetings each year and I'm sure you would meet someone from your area that enjoys fly fishing.

Thanks for the info. Yes I have visited their website before. I will holler at you if I ever go that way. I haven't been in the Austin area in several years. I usually stay in the NE part of the state. I will look up that site again. Maybe they have a member who could help out a newbie like myself. :-) I am not new to fishing, just fly fishing...hehehe.

I decided to join the group. Maybe somebody there would like to fish with me, and give me some pointers too!

Wow those are beautiful areas you fish in there! I just love Texas. It has such a wide variety of outdoor areas~! The only thing I hate is the summer heat. (I'm a native Texan)

I see you are into kayaks. I wouldn't mind doing that to try it out. I would probably have to go with a Hobie though so I can use pedals and troll at the same time....I don't have the money for one. One of these days I plan to get one though. Looks like a lot of fun. I plan to do more than one kind of fishing. I probably won't be a purist fly angler. But ya never know.

Yep, I do a lot of my fishing from a kayak. There are some parts of the Texas rivers that you just can't get to without some sort of small boat. The Hobies are nice...I would love to have one in my arsenal, but it doesn't work for me for 95% of the fishing that I do. A lot of the rivers around me are super shallow (to the point where we are out of the kayaks and dragging them through shallow runs almost every time we go out). I needed a kayak that drafted really shallow to minimize my portaging. My second kayak that I got was small and light so I could take it out, unload it, carry it to the water, and get it back on my car after my outing all by myself. I can handle my 12'+ kayaks by myself...but I load and unload kayaks all the time almost every day so I use the little, light one as much as possible. If you ever come down, we'll take the kayaks out so you can give it a try. I can't be blamed when you become addicted though.

That sure sounds like a blast. I am not in shape at all though, might not be able to handle paddling very well. I would have to take it very slow and take breaks. I normally fish at lakes though, and not rivers. River fishing sure sounds like fun though. I think I would be "hooked" as you say if I went with you. I can't afford a kayak for all purposes LOL. I am on a fixed income. So buying one will be a hard enough thing for me to do. Another problem is my son likes to fish, and I would need to get him one, or a tandem. A tandem would be great, but there are times when I would be fishing alone. I cannot be hauling a kayak around by myself. Paddling a tandem alone would be too much...

I went to a casting clinic this morning and it helped tremendously. (In Murfreesboro, AR)
