Didn't really know where to post this, so I figured her would be ok.

I was at Mill Creek in Canton TX on Thurday 2/7/08 and saw the TP&W stocking truck parked by the pond next to the entrance to the lake. I stopped and talked to the guy driving. He had just stocked the pond with Trout. These fish will die when the water warms up, so if you like Trout it would be a good time to get down there. They usually list in the the papers a couple weeks after they get stocked and the little pond will get crowded quick. Thought I'd give ya'll a heads up. It can be a lot of fun to take the kids out and sit on the bank fishing. The pond is clean and easy to walk all the way around.

They also stock Frisco Commens Yesterday. I took my 5 year old out there today, good times and we got to eat some trout tonight.

Dang! According to the TPWD website they were supposed to stock it on the 10th, tomorrow! I was heading out there Monday the 11th. Hope they're still biting then. Unless its changed, they're supposed to stock at Lake Tawakoni State Park on the 24th.
In defense of TPWD, it did say stocking dates are tentative and to check for changes.
Thanks for the heads up Lakeguide.

No prob. I just wanted to let everyone know before they put it in the Dallas Morn News. Last year they stocked it and nobody fished for them for a couple weeks, then Sasser wrote it up and it was shoulder to shoulder. You can really catch them if you get there first.

I wish I could get the kids out there, but my boy is 9 today and we are having a Bday party. I looked in the DMN this morning and there was no mention of the stocking, so maybe it wont be too crowded next Saturday.

Woo hoo, I finally had luck at Greenbriar.... actually it was less luck, and more the help of a nice man and his wife. Once they showed me what I was doing wrong, I start catching trout. ;O) Just got finished cleaning them.

Happy Birthday to your son, my daughter turns 9 next sat...its supposed to be cooler and a chance of rain next weekend, so that will keep the non dedicated fisher peeps off the ponds

They were ignoring the corn, and I got several bites on velveeta spiked with garlic, but I kept losing them.

What I was doing WRONG - I read NOT to set the hook, and not to keep too much tension on them, because their mouths are soft. What I learned was RIGHT - Set the hook, keep tip up, keep tension on them, or they slip off. That was a biggie. (may be obvious to some folks, but hey I didn't know, so maybe someone else doesn't either) But they weren't biting much on corn - everyone brought corn, so I think they were sick of it. I used an invisible line leader of about 18", with a sliding weight above it, #12 treble hook baited with the garlic spiked velveeta. It worked, I just was losing them before I got them in. They were also closer in then most people were casting. About halfway to the water fountain was about right.

Casting with a nice, bright shiny spoon, with tiny treble hooks worked very well too. Attach a weight about 12" from the lure, if you need it.

This is just what I was shown that worked. I was really happy about it!

We are human beings and we can't really digest corn, in the kernel at least. What happens is that the fish eat the corn. they can't digest it and it's too large to pass through their system so it sits inside them, taking up space, decreasing the amount of space for food that can and needs to be digested. ventually, if enough corn is eaten it takes up too much space in their bellies, they essentially die from starvation. Some western states actually have banned the use of corn as bait.

Thanks for the hot tip mapwood, but it won't matter in a few months because all these trout will DIE from increased temperatures and decreased o2. They are put and take to give people easy access to fishing fun that otherwise may not have the opportunity to enjoy it.

If they are biting on corn, then use the corn and have a ball. Take a kid!

Cool. I used garlic on corn, and some velveeta chunks. I brought both just in case, I know either one works, but that day they loved velveeta.

They were kinda small, but tasty! We smoked them, with sea salt, topped with lemon slices, capers, and doused with a little sangria.

Next time I fly North for vacation, I'm bringing my poles. ;O)
