Across the ferry heading towards Crystal Beach. Keep going down highway 87 and you cant miss it. It's about 20 min past the ferry landing on Bolivar.

The general area is best during the summer months except for during the Flounder run and Black Drum run. I don’t pay attention to either one of those, so I really can’t speak much about them.

I have fished the north jetty a few times and paddled my yak to the boat cut. It’s not that far but you definitely have to be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to the wind and weather. It can be a very dangerous, so I would suggest you don’t try it alone.

honestly, if you wanna catch sharks, high island is good, the jettys are good if you can stand the walk or have a boat, but as far as land based, id have to go with san luis pass. ive caught more big sharks, and just sharks in general there than anywhere else in the area. and thats both off the beach, and on the pier. last year i got a 6'7" bullshark there on about a 14" whiting that was only casted about 60 yards from the pier. didnt look like it had missed a meal either. this thing had some girth on it. i was there one night when what looked to be an 8-9ft bull was swimming right next to the pier. we tried pitching baits to it, but it didnt take any. not to mention, there ive seen alotta kingfish, some tarpon, and a ton of jackfish caught. just giving you other options if you dont have a boat to fish out of. its easy to get to. just follow the seawall down like youre going to surfside. youll come to a toll bridge and thats the pass. youll see the area to park to fish on the beach there, or if you keep going, once you get off the bridge you make your first left and youll see the signs for the pier. good luck and catch some big ones where ever you go.

this might be a dumb question but...when you catch a big fish off a pier, how do you get to him? you dont just winch him up do you? Or do you walk him back to the base of the pier? Seems like a big fish would be pretty heavy for a net too.

the pier staff should have a large landing net for you to use, for a fee or deposit (which is usually refundable by end of your day) or long gaf.

to answer the question about landing big fish on a pier, for pretty much everything but sharks, you use a drop net. its best to just buy a good one instead of renting it, as youll get your moneys worth buying. for sharks, i dont use a net as they will tear it up. for sharks, its easiest to use a rope. you lasso the leader around the weight and pull the shark up. if its a pretty good size shark, we lasso the leader and then lasso the shark itself so we dont risk losing it. as far as bait goes, ive caught them on pretty much everything you can catch on a bait rod. gotta think, whatevers in the water that youre catching is what theyre eating. i prefer to use jackfish and cownose rays for bigger sharks, but i also use ladyfish, sheepheads(work very well), sand trout, mullet, and shad. if by chance you ever catch an eel, skin it and use it, they work very well. like i said, pretty much everything works. just depends on what kinda baits in the water the time of year youre fishing. its best to use fresh bait. the fresher the better. i usually spend the first part of my fishing day catching bait with a cast net, or rod and reel. hope i was able to help ya out.

not so much for sharks. theres a TON of HUGE sharks in the surf. with a kayak or jetski to put your baits in the right place, you can catch just as many as you can in a boat. majority of the sharks ive caught have been land based.

I think were talking about Jetty fishing. Yes gilcrest or HighIsland is where we fish for sharks and bull reds.

When you take the seawall to the dead end, turn right. That takes you into east beach. Enter the beach, go left at the water. This runs you into the South Jetty. As you walk out, the right side is the gulf side and the left side is the channel side. Try live shrimp for bait.

Fish can be caught off the small rock breaks that line the shoreline along Galveston, cast slightly parallel to them and drag your lure or bait(carolina rigged is best) along beside the rocks. hangups can be avoided by lifting your rod tip when it gets close. look for nervous bait, and good luck
