One of my horses died. Found her in 2 ft of water in one of my tanks. Horses don't drown...one the strangest things I've seen in awhile. She was 9.

Guess I'll have to wait to see what the vet says.

I gotta find out what happened. 9 yr old horses that appear healthy and have regular vet visits don't just kill over. Kinda worried about the rest of my horses.

Thats strange for one to go down in a tank. Ive seen one or two at ropings go down quick from heart attacks, But that usually happens during some sort of exertion.

Nothing worse than not accounting for all of them, then having to search.

I have 4 mares that are getting up there around 20-25 years old and everytime i have to look for one it always worries me.

No, heart attack is what I'm thinking, but it still doesn't make sense. I kinda liked her, she was a curious horse. Not a prize winning horse or anything, but fun to watch.

If shes been well up to this point, but went down in the water like that, its gotta be a heart attack.

They can, on occasion walk in to pond and get distressed from unsured footedness, due to clay silt or debris. They then panic and cause more harm to themselves.

I have seen it done on a first hands bassis.

Trust me it will be easier explaning, than it was watching.

Might want to call your conservation officer or the USDA, were the vaccs UTD and Coggins? Not to mention, rabies. Yeah, don't happen often, but it can. Better safe than sorry. Is the VET doing a necropsy to find the cause? I have seen where a VET has died from Rabies and they tracked it back to livestock that he was exposed to over five years. I'm not trying to scare you, and this is rare, but you never know. Not to mention some type of herd health issue. Good Luck

Sorry to hear about your horse lanman. It's really tough to lose a family animal. Even more when you don't know the cause.

Nascar - that's pretty typical for a few folks around here. It always seems to be the same few.

Don't sweat the jokes people. I dish it out (well, I try and fail most of the time) so I can take it in return. Most poeple are left alone, some aren't. I know it's in fun and no harm meant.

Vet say prob heart attack, but necropsy (sp?) pending.

She was one of many so not the end of the world.

But there is a time and place for everything and a post dealing with the death, illness, etc of a loved one or something dear to a family isn't really the place for jokes...

And I would think that someone who represents the TFF should know when the appropriate time to joke is.

I managed a thoroughbred farm for about 3 years with on average about 80 horses and have seen only two just drop dead. One got struck by lightning while eating grass, still had the grass in her mouth and the other had a brain anurism, or how ever you spell it. Sorry to hear about you horse man.

Look, I've met Fatty and he's not a bad guy. That being said, I still don't get how he takes enjoyment from someone else's bad situation. Heck, he's pulled the same stuff on me before. Those responses are more of a Pilothawk thing.

Maybe one day he'll grow up a little and take his mod position a little more serious.

BTW - Sorry to hear about the horse, Lan. Let us know what you find out.
