Just to let you guys know since Jan.1st.Cabelas catalog center will be charging sales tax to all Texas residents placing orders. The shipping charges will also be taxed as well. They say this is due to new "federal" legislation passed the 1st of this year.BassProShops, however knows nothing about any of this new? ruling and will continue doing their business as usual.

They never have inyears past, nor has Bass Pro.But why they make one do it now and the other one doesnt have to I dont know. The cat. center @ BP said they were aware of new law but it only affects Cabelas and not them.

The way I understand the law is that If the Shipping Point is based out of the State you are in you have to pay taxes.

Since Cabelas has stores in Texas they are required to charge sales tax on mail orders.

The more I think about it how can the FEDERAL Gov't pass legistlation about Sales Tax? Isn't sales tax a state/county program? To my knowledge the federal gov't gets nothing from the sales tax

When you buy fishing tackle just tell cashier its farm tax exempt.Kinda like going to Tractor Supply to buy a pig ear for your dog and the cashier asks,"is that for farm use sir?.I know where there are plenty of farm ponds around.Dont you? just kidding.

The way to get around some of the cost of an order is, if you are anywhere close, Cabela's now offers an In-Store Pick-up option so that you won't have to pay for shipping and it is sent to your nearest Cabela's.

Be prepared, it is only a matter of time befor the State of Texas catches up with all of the online stores.

Soon they will all by charging sales tax. Texas, along with many other states, have already figured out that they are losing a lot of revenue through the mail and are taking the appropriate steps to get their piece of the pie.

Mark this on your calendar.

I think what we are dealing with here is an issue of the state from which the merchandise is shipped, in this case Nebraska. More than likely it has to do with their legislation and nothing to do with the state of Texas.

I was ordering a Dell computer for my Mom and at the time I lived in Oklahoma and she lives in Tennessee. They added tax to the order and I asked why?? They said because it was being delivered to a Tennessee address and they had business operations in that state they had to charge tax. If I had ordered it for Oklahoma delivery there would have been no tax. That was years ago............

Tackle Warehouse, usually has everything in stock (if not you can see immediately) no TAX and FREE shipping, I usually get my stuff in 2-3 days...I can't think of any reason to shop anywhere else.
