AUSTIN, Texas — By the slimmest of margins, Tyler Goetzman of Willis is Texas’ newest junior state record holder for largemouth bass.

Goetzman’s 13.06-pounder caught on Lake Conroe Jan. 13 eclipses a 13.00-pound largemouth taken by Kenny Schuette on Lake Alan Henry in June 2005.

The 15-year-old was fishing a tournament when the big bass took a Rat-L-Trap in six feet of water. The fish was 24 inches long and 20.25 inches in girth. By comparison, Schuette’s fish measured nearly two inches longer.

The big bass is also a new junior lake record for Lake Conroe.

Goetzman donated his record catch to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Budweiser ShareLunker program. This is only the fourth time in the ShareLunker program’s 21-year history that the season’s first entry came in January.

Lake Conroe has now produced 12 ShareLunkers and ranks fourth in the number of entries from public waters, behind Lake Fork, Lake Alan Henry and Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Goetzman’s fish is number 442 in the list of ShareLunker entries.

that is AWESOME that fish was caught in a tourney!!! i'll never forget pulling up to Larry in the TFF Fork tourney years ago and him pullin' out that 14+ pounder out and me lookin' at his fish and thinkin' "ah carp"....

When that happens you know your fishing for second place.

Stringer was just over 30#

In that stringer was an 8lb'er as well, right?

I believe it was just over 7#. It was caught in the Stowaway Sunday morning tournament. It's a great tournament for any one starting out fishing tournaments. It's 100% payback minus like $5 for polygraph fund if I remmber correctly. My brother and nephew caught it. You can catch some good stringers out of Conroe at times if you know what your doing. I believe that's the 4th or 5th over 30# that's been caught by four of us that have fished together at times. Tyler can catch them. He has his permit or license whatever they call it to operate the boat and goes out by himself and does pretty well.

Wow that's one heck of a sack to go with that kicker fish.

Tyler and his dad sacked them up pretty good yesterday on day one of the Conroe Ignition Bass Championship. 31.26#. With a over 9# lead all they need to do is execute today and they should be able to take it. Their big fish was only 6.95# so you know they had all quality fish.

I have some pics but they are still in my wifes camera. I will post them soon.
