What is the best spot on the Tx gulf coast for a retired person (snow bird) to park his trailer and catch fish without a boat?

AMEN to what SPB said although you cant go wrong anywhere on the Texas coast. From Galveston to Mexico is all good. Sabine Pass I believe is still not up to par for lenghy stays from what I've heard.

Galveston is nice.. it's probably the 2nd best large area to wade/bank fish in Texas. High Island/SLP/West Bay are legendary!

However, PA and CC have so many bank locations you couldn't fish them all in a summer if you tried and I have tried. Every where you go you can fish.. Everywhere just about.. PLUS! The best seafood resties are there, the Galveston area has maybe 3.

CC and PA offer Surf, Jetties, Piers, Cuts, and Islands fishing... Get a Kayak and you are in business! Don't want a Kayak there are boat rentals for $60 a day, J16's. Only downside is the summer crowds especially on Mustang Island!

But if you get tired of that you relocate to SPI a few hours away. SPI is not a fishing destination so the hot spots are never really crowded even in High season.

Unfortunatly the worse place, out side Port Lavaca, ha, is South Padre Island. SPI is a bank fisherman's nightmare. Unless you want to target BIG sharks SPI has limited wading and bank spots that one can easily reach. SPI is a becoming more focused on watersport activites and their beautiful beach life than a fishing hub. Can't blame them, more money!

Another thing I love about Aransas/CC is you can literally jump outta your car and chunk lures all over the place. Driving to the supermarket? Take a 5 min detour and boom you could see tailing reds! Plus Aransas and is like the Bait Stand Capital/Fishing Tackle Shop of Texas where South Padre isn't.

Personally I fish the Galveston Fishing Pier . Great fishing , helpful staff, clean , good food and drinks . Great fishing freinds there. It is handicapped freindly and the guys will help you all you have to do is ask . They rent rod and reels , also big drop nets. No live bait sold on pier. Need anything else call me on my number and I ll help you . oooo seniors get a discount .

Thanks to all for the info on TX Gulf Coast fishing spots. My cousin will be headed to the Port Aranas/CC area next week.

Corpus Area, better fishing(for me) and inexpensive. You wont pay more than 2 dollars to fish a pier in the CC area not the case in Galveston.

yeah but the ultimate fishing paradise would be Venice, LA.

I heard about Venice, LA and "Midnight Lump" or something like that.
Wow, I wish I can take a week off from work and go out there and fish. What a trip that would be !!!

I live close to Claremore Lake. I was getting info for my cousin who is at Port Isabel but relocating to Rockport yesterday. Said the food was the best but he couldn't catch fish there. Does anyone fish from the bank/piers and catch that area?
