I was under the impresion that the lake was surrounded by private property owned by Luminant. Bassers, how did your buddy buy 70 acres right on the lake? Maybe he will let you fish from his bank and youll stop whining. As far as sneaking on to plant property thats just stupid! All I will tell you is to not let me catch you out here.

I knew that txu had sold the plant, but never heard anyone say it here. One more rumor that I heard was that the plant had been refitted for coal not nuke. Is there any truth to that one?

I used to fish sqaw creek with my dad on a weekly basis as a young boy in the mid to late 80's. Though I was young, the lake left a definate impression. We wood fish all the great bass lakes in the area; Fork, Monticello, etc., yet our hands down favorite was Squaw. The clear water and over all experience made it the best lake in TX to me and many others. In a day you could catch limits of largmouth in the 3-5 lb range, chunky smallmouth, scores of sandbass, striper, and even the occassional walleye. Plus, the water was of the best quality regardless of the lake.

It saddens me to think others will never have the chance to experience that lake like I did and that I may never have the chance to fish it again. There is no reason that the public shouldnt be allowed to fish that lake and its just another example of the man keeping us down. Damn the Man!!!

Anyways, if you never got a chance to fish Squaw; take my word, "you missed out on something special!" However, I heard that another lake, "Oppossum Kingdom" (I think) is very similar to that of Sqaw if ever anything could be.

I was told that the NRC has something to do with the plant being closed to the public so I did some snooping. At the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant just 60 miles from the nations capitol and the pentagon across the river, there is a restricted area that was imposed in 02 subsequent to the 2001 attack.
It amounts to approximately 1/10th of a mile out in the Chesapeake Bay and 1/3 of a mile long.
The possiblity of a very large boat doing harm there is many multiple times greater than Squaw.

In the Turkey Point nuclear power plant 24 miles south of Miami, there was no restricted area from what I could find and there is a very large marina with very large boats less than 2 miles away.

My conclusion is as was that its not a security concern. So sad.

Yeah it must be that it's private property and they are exercising their right to keep it private...

I've been out there this past week and I have not seen any boats at least on the north end.
The land owners do own up to the fence around some parts or the lake. the fence is about 75' to 100' from the waters edge around the whole lake. We will be checking trucks for hunting and fishing equipment of all contractors that are going to work around the lake so we don't have any issues with the plant security. That is how tight the security is around the lake right now. Don't try to sneak out there and fish they will catch you.

i fished it this morning with george w bush and we caught 10 sharelunkers. i am actually sending this post from my wireless laptop in the middle of the lake right now. just snagged a 7 pound small mouth with my carolina rig around the sunken house. talk to you later, ol GW wants to go find the schooling hybrids. my best friend works there and says that they have a secret choclate factory like willy wonka's inside one of the reactors. he says if you know the secret handshake they will let you launch your boat, fish all day, and you get all the chocalate you can eat.

thats probably because its beating a dead horse and people get bored with it. the only thing that keeps it somewhat interesting is reading the tall tales and consiracy theories people are coming up with.
