Saw a show with Mark Menendez fishing a double weightless fluke rig. They didn't show the exact rigging. Best I could tell you would tie a swivel and a leader w/ a sliding hook and another swivel w/ another leader and a hook tied on the end. Anyone tried this setup?

Found this doing a google, but didnt see any diagrams. Interesting thechnique.

OK, here it is, the "Donkey Rig".
Run the main line through one eye of a really big oversized high quality barrel swivel. Let it dangle sliding down the main line for now. Tie the main line to another large barrel swivel. On the backside of the second swivel use a 12" fluorocarbon leader to attach a large fluke. Now grab the first sliding swivel and tie a 6" flourocarbon leader and smaller fluke to the other end of that sliding swivel. If you hold the rig up dangling the larger fluke will hang below the smaller fluke, and the sliding barrel swivel stops against the end swivel. Sling it Carolina rig style and they will not foul each other. Fish it with erratic hops to set up a little chase, shad chasing minnows, a shad chasing a smaller shad. If a bass grabs the smaller one first the swivel might slide 20 yards up the main line. But usually you will hook two bass at once since they fight over who gets to swallow one bait. You might be hauling one bass when another grabs the second fluke just before getting it to the boat. Anyway, it's fun to fish it. The flukes appear to be chasing down golden minnows (if using brass swivels), and the larger fluke might be chasing both minnows and the smaller fluke. No bass will tolerate that at HIS table. So be sure to use a main line capable of hauling two bass, each leader no heavier than needed to haul one.

I tried the double swivel thing a few years back and didn't like how it cast or added weight to the flukes. Didn't seem to catch any more than a single fluke for me. I did learn how to rig a small jig / fly above a slab for white bass this winter using a surgeons loop and may try that with the flukes this year.

Thanks for the quick response. Can't wait to try it in the spring.

It probly was a surgens loop I havent tryed it for flukes but worked good with flee flys for specks . I bet fluke 4" drop shot worms might be something good to try with it.

I think were I to try it, I would rig the first one like a drop shot, directly to the line, and the second off a swivel.

We do it fishing for schooling stripers with flukes or with Bucktail Jigs and Ice Flies.
1. Tie a 18 inch leader with hook of your choice to a swivel.
2. Thread main line through swivel ( do not tie it)
3. Tie another swivel to main line with 8-10 inch leader and hook.
4. The swivel in #1 slides up and down main line.
5. Use a little heavier hook on #3 will help with tangles.
6. The sliding swivel must be longer to prevent tangles.
You will still get tangled some but can catch doubles when they are schooling. I have used it on LM and Stripers.

Thanks

I saw the same show and rigged one up today. Fishes easy and looks like an absolute killer.
Interesting that at about the same time on In-Fisherman yesterday, they were showing the same thing using a surgeons knot and using it in pike and walleye waters using 2 jigs with swimbaits attached.

I never knew what to call it but have been doing that for years. Not for spawning fish but for schooling bass, I catch lots of doubles with that rig but I use a 3 loop swivel (mostly used for catfishing) and then 2 leaders. It makes it look like one is chasing the other and when they are schooling on top it is a lot of fun.

Someone was asking about the set up at the show in Longview. Hadn't seen it yet. More Info. Is there any diagrams anywhere?

I mainly use it in the fall, when the bass are very aggressive.
I've had a bass hit the first fluke, then turn and nail the second one.
You can down size the bait if you want, because the weight of the rig as a whole is enough to make a long cast.

Vary your cadence until the fish see what they want.. We called it a Zulu or Spec rig.

Well I guess I use a heard of asses. I use (5) 3 way swivels tied like explained in the second post. I start with 2 crappie jigs chasing a little brass swivel then a baby fluke chasing the jigs then a bigger fluke chasing the smaller fluke then a craw tube chasing the the flukes then a bigger craw tube chasing the smaller one out of his territory then a DD22 chasing the craw tubes then a 18" swimbait chasing all of them........ I caught 4 comorants like this once!
