Does this seem like a good buy? I will be towing a 22 ft X-Press around 2500 to 3000 lbs I would guess. I am using a 3/4 ton now but want to save some gas.

The Toyota 3.4L V-6 is pretty solid, but I think just a bit underpowered for a Tundra and towing. You might end up burning more gas.

yes you will consume about as much fuel when you tow your boat as you do know with your current truck but when not towing you will get considerably better fuel economy. also the 3.4L is very capable of towing 3000lbs.

I have the same motor in a 4WD Tacoma, and it takes over 2 tanks of gas to tow my 18' bay boat from Ft Worth to Port A. The truck tows just fine, but dang, it sucks down the gas.

What is ment by the towing package? Is that special gearing and heavier springs or just a receiver. I have never looked at a Toyoya. I have been a Ford man for over 60 years.

When I have looked at smaller trucks, the fuel economy is not much different unless you get a realy dinky one. I also fell like I'm wearing it they are so small. The new Tundra's look ok but, the bed is too short for me. I'll bet it doesn't have enough leg room either. I'll admit, I haven't bothered to check the MPG on the new Tundra but, I'll bet it's still less then 20 MPG and in reality will only get 14-15 just from the aerodynamics. Towing it will probably be 8 MPG.

I drove one for work for a couple of years that routinely got about 17 miles to the gallon, or roughly one mpg better than my '94 chevy with a 350 got, not wortht he change to me. Pluss when you put a load in it or pull something stay away from hills, it just aint got it, especialy for a 3000 lb trailer.

towing package includes supplemantal oil coolers transmission cooler heavy duty alternater (130amp) heavy duty battery and a class 4 hitch with a 7 pin connector with converter to a 4 pin on the current models.

Well,,,,,,,,since I own a 2006 Tundra,which I like. I would stay with a bigger truck. Not going to save that much gas,JMO. I have a 17' Strato's and my 6 cyl sucks the gas pulling it. But I do not tow that much. Like the truck in town and on the road. I get about 19 or 20 mpg. If I was towing my boat all the time I would have stayed with my dodge. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone I think I will just pass on it. I only would use it for towing my boat and what I have is working now. I was going to keep it anyway to put my 16 ft trailer and tractor around. No need for two trucks.

I just traded in my 2002 v8 4.7 liter tundra access cab I pull a a 20ft nitro bass boat with no problem plus 275/60/20 in tires. Stops fine pulls good, I just bought a '07 tundra double cab for the room haven't tried pulling yet only 10 grand miles

I have a Tacoma with the 3.4 and it does ok. I wouldn't want the 3.4 in a Tundra though.
