Looking to buy 2-Way radio to use on the water. Hoping to get 3 to 5 mile range. Any recomendations? Maybe the Midland GXT800? Thanks.

I have done alot of research and just put one on my new bay boat.

ICOM and Standard Horizon make the best units.

I would suggest going with a fixed mount over a hand-held due to power and range. Hand-held 1-5 watts; fixed mount 25 watts. Power equals range, and with a good fixed mount and antenna, 3-5 miles will be no problem. Also, its good to have weather radio, which is on most VHF units now.

...if your talking about the FRS/GMRS radios, the Rat Shack ones work great, but you may not get over 1 or 2 miles.
