Depends on what you're fishing for, and your price range. Many combos are good for the price, but depending on the your range, may not fit your budget.

For most inshore fishing, I would go with a spinning outfit, probably Shimano 4000 series reel (Stradic or Sahara) on a Falcon Lowrider or Cara. That's upper mid range gear, so you could downgrade that and still be ok, as long as you stayed in that size and reasonable quality range. That would handle most of your snook, baby tarpon, pompano and reds/trout. If you want bigger game, upsize that combo.

you never had a problem with the stradic or sahara corroding? even after i thoroughly wash them, they arent nearly as smooth as before. especially after a dozen times out

I fish for specks and reds a great deal each year and my favorite rig is a 7 foot "light saltwater" rod by Castaway, ( bought it before they supposedly sold the company) and an old Shimano Calcutta 200 reel, using 12 or 14 lb clear/blue Stren. Just wash it all down in the shower after each trip.

The reel might be a little pricey, but in the long run it's worth it. I think that Castaway sold out, and their rods arent what they used to be, but I'm not sure.
