Hello all.....

Ive got (what i think) might be a problem. My truck started vibrating a little, i checked the u-joints in the front and rear and they were ok, so i replaced the tires. 10 ply Bf goodie rugged trails.....It still vibrates a little, and by a little i mean, Im the only one that notices it. It seems to do it when im excelerating hard, and doesnt do it at all when i let off the throttle. What do y'all think, Ive run out of stuff to check. It doesnt get any worse, just kind of a groan and a very slight vibration in the steering wheel. could it be the heavy tires i put on, or maybe the road i run down everyday, or do i need to go fishing and find somthing else to worry about?

BF goodrich are terrible tires for road comfort. I had Rugged Trails on the 04 f150 and they were bad but when we got the new 07 f150 it has perellis and man they handle the road so much better. You just don't know how bad those tires are till you replace em. That's my thinkin, any bfg tire though vibrate and don't ride good at all at least the trucks I've been in with the ruggeds or all terrain.

sounds like torque converter shutter.. is it automatic? or it may just be the aggressive tread on the tires. when you are gasin it, the wieght is transferring to the rear end and pushing down harder on the tires.. you will feel the tread at that point.

It only does it when you've got your foot in it, but you can only feel it in the steering wheel???

As stated above, standard or automatic

Have you installed any sort of lift or leveling kit?

any type of engine mods?

Is it any different when you are pulling something? (your boat)

Pumpjack,

I know where you are comming from, I had the same issue this past summer with my 04. I thought it was either my tires or U-joints. I crawled under the truck and checked them but they seemed fine so I went off and spent $1000 on new tires (close to $1000) and it didn't help. Then a few days later, i had the truck up on jacks and then re-checked the U-joints and one was bad. Changed them out, had catastrophic falure in the Auto-zone brand u-joints and ended up costing $1800 to fix their cruddy parts. Fixed the vibration though.

Another thought may be tires were not balanced right, that is common with our big, heavy tires. The torque converter thing as stated above, tie rod ends or bad steering stabilizer or just the combination of aggressive tires on bad roads.

Good luck finding the culprit. I know exactly how bad it can drive you nuts on such an expensive truck.

Its an automatic, I was fixin to go tie onto the boat and see if it did it while pullin. Like I said Its more of a growl Like tire noise. It was vibrating bad before I replaced the tires. I went with the 10 ply because i work in the oil feild and got tired of fixing/replacing tires. theres no lift kitor anything done to the suspension, no motor mods or anything

Ok heres what i got.....40 miles and one speeding ticket later.....Pulling my ChampioN its pretty much non existant, when i throttle up on it It drops the [censored] end and vibrates a little, (no worse than unloaded) when the [censored] end comes back up its as smooth as silk. Im gonna keep an eye on it, and see what she does....right now Im gonna blame it on the awsome amount of torque that the cummins puts out. if it gets worse or better Ill take it to the shop, cause i dont have the tools or the room anymore. Thanks again for everyones help. If you think of anything else let me know.

With it being in the steering wheel, sounds like tires..but with it only vibrating during an acceleration, that sounds like something else. If the vibration was in the floorboard, I would say look at the u-joints real close.

But being in the steering wheel....maybe look at wheel bearings...

We have run into alot of wheel bearing issues with the trucks.
Ther is a recall on the 2 wheel drive trucks for hubs but not sure if it covers the 4x4. PM me your vin and I will check it for open recalls.
