Went to bear Creek Park in Keller for some trout yesterday, sprinkled the entire time. I took nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, powerbait, super duper, and Berkley power trout worms. First couple bites came on the nightcrawlers, I Carolina rigged (egg sinker, swivel 12-14 inches of line, hook, bait) half a nightcrawler on a number 6 Aberdeen hook and used a worm blower to keep it off the bottom, nothing on the salmon eggs, powerbait got a couple bites, I used the chartreuse and rainbow Carolina rigged the same way as the nightcrawlers, just make sure to put enough on the hook to make it float, the super duper didn’t get anything, Berkley power trout worm in the chartreuse shad color worked very well, I threaded it on a number 6 Aberdeen hook, pinched on 3 bb size split shot about 12 inches from the hook and dragged it on the bottom. Overall it was pretty good for 2.5 hours. Caught eight fish, kept five. The most consistent baits were the powerbait and nightcrawlers. The Berkley power trout worms were the best lures. I was one of the few people that were getting consistent bites.
Good luck,

academy does have power bait, they have the brown earthworms...trout nuggets, crappie nibbles, maiz, but no trout worms.

I was probably out there with you if you were fishing from around 10:00-12:00 by the water spray/fountain towards "the bigger part of the lake"...:)

Secret for me was the orange powerworm fished on 2#lb test with 2 BBs about 24 inches up. I caught about a dozen or so on that rig. Silly how I had my other bait rods set up (that only got bit twice on the white Gulp powerbait) and I couldn't put the worm rod down without it getting hit almost every cast. That white powerbait was the ticket the day prior with my kids for the Kid's fishing derby.

Drizzle wasn't a problem but the book I was supposed to be reading/studying was getting wet and that was going to be a problem with the story I had to tell the wife. Overall many fish caught averaging 7-10 inches long (not much size) with a couple given to my neighbor fisherman.

Anybody know how long the fishing will last at Bear Creek until the next planting? I need to go to NYC for the remainder of the week soit's unlikely I'll be fishing for atleast 1.5 weeks.

Honey worms might work for ya if you can't find the other at a nearby store. I'm gonna get some of them and try them.

I have some of the orange worms. I haven't tried them in a while. I had a couple of bites on them. I did much better on salmon eggs. I'm gonna try a red worm that was small, and I stuck it in a Power Bait worm bag. The smell and red color might catch a couple. I will soon see if the weather around here would COOPERATE.....lol.

Yes the problem now is strictly wind only. Tomorrow it may rain again though....with wind....it is getting old. We have had a lot of rain this month, much more than usual.

Well I don't live there. I just like reading all I can about the trout fishing that are stocked. I learn from different places. It has helped me catch a lot more trout. Plus now I can help others maybe a bit as well. I know when I go to my local place, a few people come up and ask me what I'm using, and how I'm catching 'em.

If I had the money I'd be taking several trips to OK, and AR, for the fly fishing experiences of stream trout. But I am not able to do that right now. So I just wanted to make a note on that in case some thought I preferred stocked trout. Nope, I would prefer stream trout, I bet they taste a little better, and are BIGGER too.....lol. But I catch em as I can ya know. :-)
