i was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the power pole anchor system. i'm getting a haynie h.o. and i'm trying to decide if it is a smart choice to get a power pole put on it. i was wondering the pro's and cons. thanks---

I can't answer the Aransas bay question, I never really fish it. So if you think a 6 footer if fine, by all means... However, I would look at an 8 if I fished the upper coast..

I know Aransas Bay waters quite well being in the Coast Guard. The deepest water you will find out of the ICW is about 8ft. I would guess the 6ft would suffice. I would email the company and ask them...I have checked out their website and they can definitely answer the depth question for you.

Being a man of the water and a fisherman with a boat that does not have a Powerpole, I would push you to get one. I can't tell you how many times I have come up on fish and tried to lower the anchor to hold station and scared everything away.

I have also fished on boats with Powerpoles and almost spent more time oogling over how amazing the ease of a Powerpole is than fishing!!

Power Poles are the best invention for flats fishing! My buddy has a flats cat and it is unbeleivable how fast we can pull up push a button and be wading!

are the power poles meant to replace the anchor, meaning can you put your power pole down and jump out of the boat and go wading even when it is windy and not have to worry about the boat drifting off or the pole breaking. i'm going to be putting this on a 24' boat so i dont know if that will make a difference or not.

I believe they have different size poles for boats. But yes in shallow water conditions they will replace the anchor. IN mud the pole can go pretty deep in to hold the boat still.
I would call power pole as they can tell you its exact capabilities...

Get one it will spoil you. I have a 6ft on a Z22 Shearwater and really like it. Low maintenance, just a little CorrosionX after every trip.

If you travel, go with the 8 footer. If you fish the same bays, and know your in 4-5 foot, the 6 footer will be ok.

i have been thinking about buying one but right now i am using a 6ft piece of 3/4" stainless rod sharpened at one end and a small rope tied to an eyelet mounted on the other end. it works great, you get somewhere you want to stay for a while you throw it into the water like your spearing a fish and tie off the line and you are good to go!
