Having nothing planned for Sunday morning, I headed out on a solo mission to do a little fishing. I started off the morning doing some scouting for the S&S tourney next weekend. I made my way from Galveston to Ernies on Christmas Bay checking out quite a few spots in between. The only other kayaker I saw the entire day was a guy in an Orange Tarpon 140 at Ernies.
After checking out quite a few promising places, I decided to unload the yak and hit the water. I only fished for a few hours before food and the football games were calling my name.
I fished 3-5ft of murky water concentrating on mud/shell transitions. All fish were caught on paddle tail soft plastics. It was a pretty good day, as the conditions were less than favorable. The wind was howling, but I continued to “grind it out”, as I will probably be forced to do the same in two weeks.
This is ice in the seat of my MR Sunday morning. I loaded it up the night before – bad decision. You can see my hand print where I “tested” the temp.

Soon after I hit the water, I landed this nice Red.

Back to the cold drink she goes…

I caught quite a few Trout and a few more Reds. I hooked one Red deep in the Throat so I decided to start a small stringer for dinner. All in all, it was a good day on the water.
