I would like some opionions on this subject.

I was wondering what would be the effect of saltwater on my bass boat and trailer? I have been doing alot of bay fishing lately by wading and kayak but have found some areas I would like to get to by boat. But until I convince my wife that I need 2 boats, (one bass boat and one bay boat) I would consider puting my bass boat in the bay. Would this be a disaster?

Obviously I would rinse and wash my trailer and boat immediately after my saltwater useage.

Thanks

Ive ran mine in the bays alot over the past few years and regardless how good you rinse it off your trailer is going to rust. The carpet will tear up pretty quick too. But other than the carpet and trailer( which went to $hit pretty fast), i havent had any problems. My boat wasnt that nice to begin with so i didnt really care but if i had a new bass rig theres no way id put it in salt.

Yes, it would be a disaster. Kiss your trailer goodbye too unless it's galvanized. Just a real bad idea.

trailer "HAS" to be galvanized before i would consider it. sell your bass boat and get a CC. i use my CC for bass fishing all the time. it works great for it.

Boat would probably be ok as long as you take extra care to flush the motor and run fresh water through the bilge after a trip, along with other cleaning. But, the other comments about your trailer are dead-on. If it ain't galvanized, don't risk it.

I agree with TX Grizzly about the CC, I do the same with mine and actually the majority of my time in my CC is spent bass fishing.

Or just buy a used galvanized trailer. If you like your bass boat, and it sounds like you do, than investing in a salt water trailer could be an option for you. You may even be able to find someone who whats to trade trailers. Your boat should be fine.
