BAss buster Inn at the dam. Off the lake a bit try Rayburn Country Hotel off FM 1007. Almost all the hotels in Jasper have outside boat hookups and cater to fishermen. Also Twin Dikes Marina across the road from the Bass Buster Inn has cabins. In the Hwy 147 area things get a little less "plush". Broaddus (near Jackson Hill Marina) hass some choices ... trailers, little motel, etc. Jackson Hill has some little cabins but last time I saw them a year ago they were pretty ruff ... I hear they're better now. White's Lodge on Harvey Creek arm I've heard is pretty good ... off FM 2390 going to Harvey Creek Park/ramp. Powell Park has cabins and I like the area too ... good burgers at the store! To get to Harvey or Powell parks access off Hwy 83 between Broaddus and Pineland.
Warning ... if less than a 19 foot boat might wanta check other launch sites other than at the dam ... lotta open water and 5'-6' waves not uncommon. Powell Park hgas a very protected site about a mile away into 5 Fingers caller Bayou Recreation Site for smaller craft.
Lotsa choices on this big momma jamma body of water. These are just ones I know about and many I've used.

Jackson Hill Marina out of Broaddus right there at the Hwy 147 Bridge is a good place to stay. They have a marina store for food and snacks. They also have cabins (they have been refurbished). Cabins have beds, air conditioners, hot showers. They also have travel trailers to rent and an RV area for your RV. If their is something you need or do not like they will go out of their way to help you. Just ask for Terry. There website is http://www.jacksonhill.usPhone number is 936-872-9266. Hope this helps you....

Hello; DCS Where in Angleton do you live? I live outside of town on the creek. We have a trailer up on Rayburn and go there when we can. Can't help too much with your question, except for Shirly Creek, they have cabins for rent and 2 boat ramps. Not to bad of a place to stay, have been there several times. We stay at the 147 bridge, they also have motel rooms, not fancey, just a room, shower, and bed. I think about $40, lots of tournment fishermen stay there, all they need is a place to lay their head. There is a boat ramp about 1 mile away (Cassells Boykin Park), good ramp except a little ruff in strong north wind.
Are you taking a boat? What kind of fishing are you going to do? Send me a PM. Jim

I have to agree with John,Jackson Hill would be my choice.I fish there nearly every week, the mid lake area doesn't receive near the pressure that the dam and twin dikes area does.Although that will all change when Cassel Boyken is rebuilt because the midlake area will be hosting lots of the bigger tournaments that are now out of twin dikes and powell park.Anyway I would try mid lake, places like the canyons,Harvey creek,Indian Creek,Bird Island,Julie creek and Mudd creek. If you can't find good bass in these areas, you might as well stay home.Good luck

Cowdog, We are just west of Buccee's off of Hwy-35. Ever since we retired we have been breaking into fresh water fishing. We are migrating from salt water to fresh water. We have a 22' Bluewave with a 150 Yamaha on it. Nothing fancy just a plain Jane fishing boat that's real easy to keep clean and rides good.
We are focusing on bass fishing and crappie fishing. We are planning on spending a couple of days just driving around Sam Rayburn and checking out places before we plan fishing trips.
We are leaving out in the morning so I will start chewing on all this information tonight and come up with a game plan to start looking at where we can stay when we do start going up there.

DCS Do you live on CR 28? Or maybe in the subdivision off CR 28? We live at the end of CR 28 on the creek. We also have a Blue Wave 19' and chase mainly crappie and some catfish. If the weather breaks I may go up later this week. Good luck with your drive and enjoy the trip. Jim
