Absolutely not!! Choosing a pair is more about personal preference. Make sure they are polarized and will cover your eyes. I wear JKruz and I have a big head. They have a floating sunglass line that works nicely.

My biggest issue with expensive glasses is that I am afraid of loosing them. I think I will buy some this year, but I will be a nervous wreck until I loose them.

I have been wearing Smith Action Optics for 3 years and never leave the house without them. I keep an extra pair in my boat in case I leave my everyday pair in the truck during launching.

I've had a $120 pair of costas and a $180 pair of oakleys and they are both now in the bottom of fork. So I'm now looking for a new pair of shades that float or will also invest in a nice lanyard with my next purchase. Still havn't told the wife I lost the oakleys she bought me for christmas last year!

I second that...I love my Muai Jims and plan on getting another pair. I have the Seafariers, they are the most durable and comfortable pair of glasses I have ever owned. They are pricey but I know Ive got my moneys worth out of them.

I bought these stupid sunglasses that fit over your seeing eye glasses. They worked perfect right up until they went Davy Jones down at Fork. Bought another pair just the other day. They are ugly and only cost $30 but they work.

They are worth the money. There are plenty of straps available and some that float. You will be amazed what a good pair of glasses can do.
In addition to seeing shallow fish, I also can find isolated cover in a little deeper water because of the ability to see shadows and different shades in the water.

Absolutly! Conditions demand it on a lake for many reasons. Polarized sunglasses is just like a rod/real, cant fish the beds w/out them.

I tried a pair at Sams Club they are called Pacific Traders...I love them they are easy to wear, polorized, in several shade and are glass lenes. Now here is the great part they were only $60.00. Can't beat a deal like that..I think they can even get them with the prescription lens but don't quoate me on that. My wife fishes coulpes tourneys with me and she now has a pair also, except she has some little fake diamonds on teh side and designed for women....They are also salt water resistence

I tried a pair at Sams Club they are called Pacific Traders.. I have had these glasses for years. Great set of driving or general use glasses. Mine don't work that great for seeing bedding fish though. Folks I have been with can see fish that I can't. I am in the market for a new set of fishing shades for this year.

My biggest issue with expensive glasses is that I am afraid of loosing them. I think I will buy some this year, but I will be a nervous wreck until I loose them. I used to feel the same way. But I finally gave in and it has saved me a ton of money in the long run. Think about it... at $10 to $12 a pair from WM, I used to go through about a pair a month. I paid $120 for my first pair of Oakleys and wore them for almost 3 years. When you pay for them, you are much more likely to be careful with them and pay attention to where you leave them. I still have my old Oakleys, but have since upgraded to Maui Jims. I doubt I will ever buy another brand. They are ultra light and I can wear them litterally all day long with no problems. Never been able to do that before with any other brand.

I post this every time the subject of sunglasses comes up: The $20 polorized glasses at Bass Pro and Academy are way more comfortable to sit on than Oakley, Maui Jim, RayBan or Costa Del Mar!

I wear presciption glasses and purchase the ones that come with the clip on polarized sunglasses. I will not fish without them. If I did, I would not be able to see. Eyes are too sensitive to the bright light.
I do not think you would have to go out buy a $150-$200 pair, but I would not buy the cheapest out there either. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.
I can not say it is this way with all brands, but I am sure, as with everuthing else made, you pay more because the product has a certain brand name.

If they fall off while lipping a fish or retying, they float back up. No harm done. They are also light weight and durable. They are on sale for $29.95 right now. http://www.jkruzeyewear.com/products-floating.php

what style of Maui Jims do you recomend? I like the Titanium Sports that I pictured in my post above. They are extremely light to the point that you forget you even have them on. does the color of the lenses matter? The color of lenses makes a big difference depending on the light situatuion. For brighter days I like the darker lenses and for overcast or hazey days I like the Rose or Amber.

sunglasses are a must, have had mine for over a year now, husband kept telling me that I needed a good pair to wear, that it would make a difference, but being hard headed as I am, and afraid of loosing them, did not get a good pair until last year. We found at Gander Mtn a Native brand. They are a really good polarized lens and seem to be a little resistant to scratching.

Sunglasses are like shoes. Skimp on them now when you are young but pay the price as you get older. I'll argue to the end that good shoes and good sunglasses are a necessity. You have only 1 set of eyes and please take care of them. Ding, Ding, Ding!!! EXACTLY!!!!!!!!

Take a look at Solar Bat sunglasses. Their poly-carbonate lens gives them the ability to make some really nice tints. They have a Mossback Gradient that the top 60% of the lens is a dark Mossback Green and the bottom 40% is Hi-Con Yellow. This gives you the ability to look up heading into the sun and have great protection and site and then look down to tie a knot or look at your electronics as everything brightens up with the Hi-Con Yellow. I also feel that for site fishing their 100% Mossback Green is better than the expensive Amber glasses I have used for years. Also if you need prescription they can do bi-focal. I hate having to find my reading glasses on the water so I can tie a knot. You can check them out on-line at http://www.solarbat.com.

Mauji Jims for sure...I can't fish without them, and I don't just use them for sight fishing..If you are fishing a crankbait or flipping, it is often times I will see a big boulder, laydown, or other piece of cover that I wouldn't have seen without the glasses. One of the best investments in fishing!

Agree with Rob Jasper, Solar bats only way to go. I buy strictly on site fishing and the moss back green lens are the best. Its great that I don't have to worry if its sunny or cloudy. Plus their not too expensive and they fit good to had mine over a year still not scratched or anything.

Anyone that says sunglasses are a waste of money is an absolute idiot!!You only have one pair of eyes ,nevermind the ability to see in the water, sunglasses will save your eyes!!! Dont buy a cheap pair like someone suggested you get what you pay foe . How much are your eyes worth? Its hard to believe a guy will spend $40,000.00 plus for a boat and buy a pair of $6 walmart sunglasses!
