Okay,
1. The lake was closed for security purposes on 9-11, I was there/here. I am still there/here

2. Squaw Creek Resevoir does indeed letdown into squaw creek to maintain minimal dissolved solids. Squaw creek is accessible by a mere barbed wire fence.

3. I would like to see the Lake re-opened to the public. Don't hold your breath though. I do enjoy the bank fishing right now though.

4. BBassers thinks we can get power from California if we needed to. This is not the case. The Texas Grid is isolated from the rest of the country except for a few DC lines out close to ElPaso. We are unique in this regard.

5. TXU no longer owns CPNPP (Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant) they/we were bought out by KKR&Company and are now called Luminant.

6. Keep petitioning for it to reopen and when I (who sits near the bottom of the corporate totem pole) hear something notable I will be happy to post it on this thread.

7. Quit the rediculous speculation

I for 1 know that the closing of the nuclear plant was done by the same people that staged the moon landing \:\)

Your right river critters I for one do not know anything about a nuclear power plant. But what I do know is this since I have been to war and seen first hand what we are fighting, if the peolpe of the United States alter our way of living every time something happens the terorist win that is all they are trying to achieve.

People around the Waco area will remember that this is not the first instance of TXU doing this. They closed TP&L lake in Riesel at the time for the same thing still to never reopen it again. Come to find out, TXU leased the lakeshore to a private individual that did not want people on the land so he could run his cattle. My source said that TXU leases on 100yr leases, this was a very high manager @ one of their power plants.

Anyone remember that old house out in the lake? That was always a productive spot for us. Sure do miss it!

Thanks fishy

I knew that txu had sold the plant, but never heard anyone say it here. One more rumor that I heard was that the plant had been refitted for coal not nuke. Is there any truth to that one?

For what its worth : The Power plant lake were closed at the recommendation of Home Land securty. Almost all power plant lakes were closed, some have reopend. not many. I can not fish any lake that you can not fish. I have kin folks that work at power plants across the state they can not fish the lake that you can not fish. I have tried to fish a great number of the lakes and can not. The co TXU now Lumenat (sp) does not give a ripp if you fish the lake as it did not coast them any $$. the new co Lumenat (sp)will not give a ripp about what you think any what you do. Its easy they will call the law and let them dill with you. TXU has leased land for cattel operations for years, before that they had a cattel operatuion there self and no they do not lease land for 100 years the guy at one plant leases land for 5 years.he may fish on the water but I do not beleave any employee of the with sence is fishing on closed waters as if the boss found out it would be there jobs. I am not a co do gooder by no means just want the right story told..

Homeland security was not created until sometime after 911. But I am sure the federal Gov recomemded its closeing. But my 2cents is if the gov is going to leave 800 miles of tx boarder wide open. Please let them come up with some solution of opening the lake and maintain security. But I doubt it will ever happen, the same buracratic thinking is why they stoped me at the airport with my NRA keychain silver bullet which is by know means a real bullet. If people keep asking JUST MAYBE SOMEDAY IT WILL OPEN.

Many of the nuclear powerplants access were never closed or were for very short periods of time. I can't find any references to other like closings around the country. At least that is what I have found out by googling it and asking the question on BBC.
In my opinion Squaw Creek was closed with or without the security of this country in mind....maybe so maybe not and I don't think we know. I do think that its being kept closed for company reasons.

They just refer to national security as a way to defer the question.

Also please someone who has said that this is happening at other power plants please give us some names or information. I have asked this question before and got no answers.

I don't think they could make a sizeable income from the lake after covering expenses. Not much anyway unless they started charging 20 dollars or more a person.

I would think that the question of keeping the area in a natural state and keeping the land in use for the public good would be a good reason for them doing it. Sort of like a public service. They could even put out a commercial saying how much benefit the land is for the public....

Texans are all about bass fishing. I can not beleive that there aren't enough people in high positions to get that lake opened. I guess some Texans can be greedy too so I guess they use it for themselves. Can you imagine how many state records, maybe national records there are in that lake? All them bass that hasn't seen a crankbait or spinner bait in years. It is a shame. You know, we could rebel and get a few hundered fishermen out there and take over the lake. They can't take us all to jail; just half of us. Anyone feeling lucky?
