Jetties and their guts act like highways for fish. Especially on low and high tides, the predator fish just hang out on the access roads and jump unsuspecting fish.

Remember if you fish the jetties it's not always about casting way out in to the center. Most of the larger fish are cruising the rocks within 10-20 yards.

5 foot black.

On a faithful Penn Senator with #50 pound big game and a whole whiting under a ballon.

Was around dusk on an outgoing tide. I had tried all day earlier to fish the incoming tide but that was a waste. My bait kept getting dragged into the jetties. So I wised up and fished the outgoing tide so it took my bait out in the sea.

Now, if I fish the night with a ballon I like to put light sticks in a yellow or white heavy duty ballon. That way I can see it better at night. These work great in June and July when the sea's are calmer.

I like to use the balloon method also. I have done good with Jacks and sharks off of the jetty this way. The out going tide is key to fishing from the jetty. If I have my boat, I like to fish the incoming tide.

The Jetty is "cleaverly" hiden at the East end of Galveston.

From 45 get off on 61st street. At the end of 61st, turn LEFT on Seawall and follow it all the way to the jetties. Take a RIGHT on Boddiker Road or whatever it's called.

There are other ways to get to the Jetties that are fast but I like the scenic tour, plus it gives me a chance to stop in at Islanders.

Ah, I believe I have seen this Jetty by accident. We took a left from 61st street and went all the way to the end of Sea Wall and saw a few cars parked on this little steep hill on the left. Or maybe that is not the right one. But I got a pretty good bearing where is Jetty is at.

Thank you for all your HELP and we will see you there in the SPRING and SUMMER run. "Whatever run up there, we will try to catch it"

No I don't think anyone has ever caught a good fish up at High Island.. Jamaica Beach is a community and it's only good for flats fishing. The surf is decent but the bay produces better.

You guys got me interested to fish the jetty. Couple of questions....1. do you fish the gulf side or the bay side? Does the side you fish depend on the tide? 2. How do you determine where the guts are? 3. Read about jigging large jigs with Norton sand eels along the sides of the jetties, would this hold true? My first instinct would be free lining bait or popping corks, but I ain't no expert. Thanks.

i can tell you about tides a lil..i think ive heard you want to fish kinda clsoe to the jetttys becasue they are warmer but you will get hung up many a time on jsut any old day..if u fish on a day with outgoing tide it will bring your bait away from the jetty...less hangups

High island is good for bull reds and shark but you need a Kayak to get the baits out.

it's 2 miles from land to cut on granite boulders if u plan to walk. trust me on this..............don't do it!!!! been there and done that in the middle of august years back carrying a 150 qt. ice chest, lawn chairs, 8 rods, and tackle boxes(between 5 of us). probably the STUPIDEST thing we have EVER done. seriously though, thought we were gonna die!!! however, it's still something we'll never forget....

So there are 2 jetties in Galveston, a NORTH and a SOUTH jetty?
I though there was only one jetty which is at the end of seawall off street called Boddecker Dr.

This is so confusing,

Just a quick question. I asked this question on 2cool. If i was take my kayak and paddle out to the end of the north jetty to make the trip quicker. Get off the yak, tie it up down current side to keep it off the rocks. FIsh the day and then load upa nd hpaddle back. Has anyone ever tried this before. Thinking of getting past the boat cut. Spending the day in June out there. On a flat day with good weather. Feasible? Too risky? Any one wanna join? Would fish for the usual. Send out a coupld of long rods.

once u go over to boliver via the ferry, take a right on 17th street off of hwy 87 (which is the hwy yer automatically on once u drive off the ferry). it will be a couple miles (maybe) and u will take a right on 17th street. there might even be a sign for the "north jetty bait and tackle shop" but i'm not sure. either way, turn onto 17th street and you'll make it there. \:\) give a report if u go!

Across the ferry heading towards Crystal Beach. Keep going down highway 87 and you cant miss it. It's about 20 min past the ferry landing on Bolivar.

The general area is best during the summer months except for during the Flounder run and Black Drum run. I don’t pay attention to either one of those, so I really can’t speak much about them.

I have fished the north jetty a few times and paddled my yak to the boat cut. It’s not that far but you definitely have to be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to the wind and weather. It can be a very dangerous, so I would suggest you don’t try it alone.
