Looks like we can just about write off Texoma camping for another year. I just looked at the available campgrounds and it would be easier to list the ones that are open. It is amazing to me that Burns East is open while Burns West is closed. Caney Creek is open but who wants to go up there from Dallas. Looks like I will be making day trips. Which stinks especially with the gas price predictions.

there is a super primitive spot on the oklahoma side about 10 minutes away from durant that I used to camp at..no water or utilities, no bathroom is the trees, come to think about it there is one, but its not really that close....I am willing to share that spot if ya want..BUT! there are no reservations so its first come first serve. There are plenty of spots along the bank though...good fishing too if you're into that kind of thing. boat ramp down the road. PM me if ya want it.

heck there's even some okay camping at the dam site, thats an hour and 20 minutes away from carollton

My brother lives at Buncombe Creek Resort. He said there is no overnight camping allowed there anymore. I think he mentioned it was because of the bad element going out there at night and raising cane.

The problem is that most of the campgrounds are shuttered for 2008 due to the floods last summer. The ones that are open are booking up fast. I cannot believe that the damage was so extensive to all these campgrounds that they could not be repaired in time for the summer of 2008. The bad element is what ruined Island View for all. You could camp for free and while there was no elec or water there was a nice beach. They shut it down completely and then the county took it and made it day use and now it is shut down again.

Take a trip over to the Tawakoni SP, it is nice and not far. Then Cedar Hill SP on Joe Pool is a nice one.

Island View was a nice place. Best beach on the whole lake. It's a shame it got so rowdy. I remember when that guy got his throat slit. No more good times...

Again, it is not Texoma. There are no stripers in Ray Roberts. I know they are in Tawakoni but it is not the same.

The problem around here (CenTex) on the Corps lakes is the park hosts say the Feds won't send the money to repair stuff...

I have looked at just about all of the campsites that I would consider and for the most part they are closed for 2008. I either tent camp or use a pop up so some of the sites that dgruff listed I do not consider because they rent mobile homes. I thought about the federal money thing. I hoped that that was not the problem because that would really set me off. I pay a whole bunch of money in taxes and the least that the feds can do is provide us with some decent campgrounds. I guess that I need to start to write my congress person. It probably won't do any good though I think that all the feds are worried about anymore is feeding the poor and the people who are to lazy to work for a living.

I was at Catfish Bay this weekend and at the store they had a big petition going. Seems that Oklahoma is selling the cabins and some of the state park property because they dont have the $$ to fix em. Campsites were in bad shape, but the greens on the golf course looked ok.

Buda, Two years ago the hotel was open, last year it was closed and looked bad! I'd say whoever wants to fix it should!

I guess I just like camping on the water! That is the best perk about it!

Looked at the Tulsa District website and all of the parks that I normally camp at are closed. I hate to fo all the way up to Platters, but I may not have a choice.
