Took the PB out to Fayette County for the first time and got there at sunrise. Had a small problem getting the boat going so after a run to La Grange and WalMart we were on the water by 8:30am. Man it was cold! The docks still had ice on them and the wind was howling. Lots of white caps; but the boat is solid (all be it old) and we don't get many chances to fish on the weekend so we had to make it a go. Besides the sun was shinning!
Headed south through a ton of fog and fished the discharge area. The water temp was 64 degrees and we did find some limited cover by the dike. Dale hooked up first and landed this guy on a rattle trap.
After about 45 mins. and working the entire protected area we stuck to our float plan and moved north to try some better protected areas. Dale hooked up again using a lizard bait. This beat up fish didn't give him much of a fight and I thought it was funny how tore up he was. We were starting to wonder about the effects on the fish from the power plant:)
As the water warmed a bit we started working a west bank and I decided to work a bit more shallow and T-Rigged a worm. I was rewarded with this fish which showed a ton of heart.
Later the same technique/bait tricked this guy.
Around 1:00pm we decided to eat lunch. Dale left his worm in the water as we drifted towards shore and found a little guy. No picture but his luck was good. We must have drug him a while as he didn't know he had him until his lunch was gone.
I was still eating when I told him I was going to try a spot where the reeds meet a channel. He beat me to it and landed this guy on a different lizard. I think I should get half credit for this fish.
We continued to try different areas. Several spots we wanted to fish had boats on them as there was a club tournament going on. After talking to a few of the participants we should have entered.
My last fish of the day was caught next to a creek channel on a rattle trap. I don't normally throw crank baits but after I broke off and tangled up my other rods (the wind made it lot's of fun) it was the only one handy.
It was a tough day with Dale catching a limit and me being 2 fish short but mine were all good fish. I'm still recovering from battling the elements. Sure enjoyed the time on the water. Fayette County Lake is an excellent bass lake and I can't wait to go back and try again when it's not so dang cold. Did I mention it was cold?
