I am having a smoker built to my specs. I am looking forward to getting it home. It is just about ready. But I have to seal it and paint it. How do I do this do I baste the inside with peanut oil and light the firebox on it and cook it in to seal it? And the outside I was just planning on painting it with high heat grill paint. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am not worried about the outside. I am not painting powder coating anything on the inside.

whatever you do, don't powder coat it. You have the right idea anyway; burn it out with oil a few times to season it.

Put atleast 3 coats of high temp paint on, it dries in 15 min so three coats wont take that long. Then coat the inside with whatever cooking oil you wish, the spray oil works best your able to coat in tight areas. Then lite you a fire in firebox, toss on a small log or two for some good smoke, I always use mesquite. Gitcha a beer an enjoy tha smell of a new smoker bein broke in. Pure heaven I tell ya! Congrats on tha new smoker, lets see some pic's!

Thank you for the input. I will post some pics as soon as I get the smoker to my house before and after pics of seasoning and paint job. He is doing the finishing touches now on his welds.
