I made a quick trip to POC saturday. I had originally planned to wadefishing, but suprisingly my wife wanted to go as well. We found calm winds, warm weather, and almost no crowd. We launched by 9:00 and was off the water by 3:00. We fished the jetty with shrimp and finger mullet. We caught plenty of sheephead, a few trout, and a single redfish. Basically, sheephead were everywhere we stopped and bit on shrimp on every type of rigging we tried. We caught the trout fishing popping cork near the rocks. The redfish came on finger mullet on a fish finder rig.
I did have a couple strange occurances. Something bit through the 50lb leader material I was using twice taking my hook. I assume it was larger sheephead. I also had a finger mullet squished flat. It was about a 5" mullet rigged on a 12/O circle hook. I noticed some slight twitches on the rod similar to what a hardhead might do. When I checked bait a few minutes later, the bait looked like it had been rolled flat with a rolling pin. I assume something with crushers rather than teeth tried to eat it and didn't like the taste.
