Never been there, I am trying it out Saturday with my 6 yr old #1 fishing buddy. I would love any tips, as well as anything to beware of(obstruction, boating hazards etc)

Best boat ramp?

Thanks guys.

The lake is at near full pool, I would launch at joe's place near($8.00) the dam, ramps is ok when the lake is full.... I know bass fishing out there is pretty tough.. I would focus on secondary points and hang out in the backs of some coves cause the lake has a alot of under water grass and brush form it being 40 ft low this yr.........

A few years ago, similar situation the lake had come up to pool level, and in the back of one of the small coves directly across from where Will said to launch, there was a driftwood mat on the surface and a clear opening behind the log jam, and I cast into the pool, and caught a 6 lb. bass.

Just a little further back I through the worm as far into the back of the cove as I could next to some logs, and Wam! I hooked one I couldn't do anything with, and the fish broke me off!

Find the back ends of the coves and around the trash and logs and I'll bet you find some good fish!

What are you fishing for?

With a 6 year old I would grab some minnows and then bobber fish in front of private docks for crappie. Lot of brushpiles around these docks. Look for docks that have lights on them. That's normally the docks that have brush piles in front. Crappie will be there.

Thanks for the advise guys! With my son we normally aim for bass, but really anything that 'll bend a pole! I have never crappie fished, but it looks fun, especially with kiddos.

I cant wait to get out there and try out that lake! I love going to new places.

Work along those rocky bluffs and you can throw a green crawfish crank bait, and have him throw a beetle spin or similar type small grub/spinner and those little 10" bass, and perch will keep him busy!

Well we went out there Saturday and caught one small bass on a jig. It was really windy and I suffered from allergies big time!

We had a lot of fun though just hanging out and having some father son"guy-time".

My son said he had a lot of fun. Thats whats important!

Nice looking lake. Are there any other good ramps besides Joe's? Just curious.

Thanks guys for all the info.

Where abouts is the county ramp? I did see the turn off to red cove but didnt check it out. What about any good ramps at the top end of the lake?

Thanks

I beg to differ sir...

There IS NOT a two lane concrete ramp at Red Cove.. The ramp there does not exist.. It is a fictional abboration combined of boulders, rocks, pee gravel, chet rock, asphalt chunks, trailer parts, propeller pieces, fiberglass particles and skag chips.. But it IS totally coated with rubber... From tires..

Other than that it is a lovely location to to mine limestone..

These are just my opinions..

I fish Medina quite a bit. I have found that the the drive over to the county park is NOT worth it...even though it ends up being free a lot of the year. I'll spend less paying the $8 at Joe's than the gas it takes to get to the park. The ramp just isn't steep enough, and you have to back your entire car in the water!

Joe's place has the best ramp, from what I can tell. Also, your vehicle is safer being parked in their gated lot. Good dock too. There have been numerous break-ins at the county park. The ramp at Red Cove is, at best, a rocky mess...and again, you'll have to back your car into the water!

Beautiful lake, though...one of my favorites. I fish it at least two or three times a month now that I have a good running rig. Berkley Power Worms in Blue Fleck are great. "Fire Tiger" type crankbaits and Silver Rattle Traps work too.

Haven't found the crappie yet...but I'll try the docks...like someone said above. Awesome structure, awesome scenary...love this lake!
