Just wondered if anyone fished Oil Lake before the 50 foot breach of the dam last week. I heard nothing but good things about the lake but never made it there even with an invite one time. BTW the lake is or was in Van Zandt County.

Fished there a few times as a kid growing up near there 20+ years ago. It is outside of Van in VanZandt County. A buddy of mine used to live right by it. We called it Pure Oil Lake back then. Don't know if the name changed. Always caught fish but like I said that was 22-25 years ago. Most of the time we fished by the dam.

The map calls it Rhines Lake, but I always head Pure Oil or Oil lake. Well it's got a gaint hole in the dam now.

I used to spend my spring breaks there as well as every chance I got, have had some really good days catching bass and catfish. I know the guy that owns the land around the dam, and I'm not sure whether he is going to fix it or not. Not even sure if they have decided on who's responsibility it is to fix it.

I have fished Pure Oil Lake pretty much my whole life being that my dad is from Van and I have alot of family down there. I have caught alot of bass out of that lake. I haven`t been there since the hole developed in the dam, i have just moved over to Van City Lake caught 2 bass last year between 8 and 10 lbs. on a red trap and both were caught between 15 and 20 cast of each other.

My brother who lives in Tyler said that Van City Lake has a hole in the Dam. Anyone been out there lately?
