buddy of mine wants to know what the best prop for him on a 225 Merc would be. He blew his Yami and had an older motor and needs a good prop to use until the Yami is rebuilt.

He wants hole shot and some top end but he fishes big water so no worries on performance.

My question is does the motor mean more to the prop or does the boat? And what is the difference in a 3 blade vs a 4 blade.

25" Tempest or a 25" Trophy Plus The Trophy will give a little better hole shot with outboard set at 1.75" below the pad. Has he tried the Yamy prop?

Generally a 4 blade has more grip. If he fishes in big water he will have more luck with a Trophy. A 3 blade is faster but in a heavy boat like that it won't be much.
I vote for a 25 pitch also.

personally i prefer the 25p tempest 3 blade on rangers.

don't care for 4 blades on any ranger.

rangers need all the bow lift they can get, that's why the 3 blades run better.

that yammy prop will work on that mercury, just need some prop nut attaching hardware to make it work.

steve.

That's what I was thinking. Especially since it appears to be temporary.
