I currenlty have a 1989 Johnson 110 HP on my 1989 Bass Tracker 1800TF fiberglass boat. I am considering upgrading the motor to a merc 150 to gain some performace. That is the max the coast guard sticker has on it. How much should one expect to pay for a used decent shape merc 150? Say year 2000 or above. Is there a market for my old Johhson 110HP motor?

Thanks in advance

tight lines to ya'll

i'd say just trying to FIND a used 150 would be hard enough, let alone one that is still in really good shape.
what to pay for one?? 2500 to start, and goes up depending on fuel injection, or carb'ed ,etc.
AND, since your going to a mercury you'll need different gauges, and a merc. control box.

it's only $$$$$$$$

A good 2000 up 150 Merc carbed will cost over 4K and EFI will bring over 5K. Then like steve said you will need another 7-800 bucks worth of accessories to get it on the boat. Yor best bet is to buy a good 150 OMC or Merc late 80`s to early 90`s on a boat. I do`nt know if anyone else has noticed but boats are getting cheaper. I have had several calls this week wanting to sell their boat(looking at 4 dollar gas) Look at the Gambler post he is getting a rebuilt 150 for 800.00. I can guarantee that if your not catching fish now, the bigger motors not going to help. The only thimg it will help is to help empty your wallet. Good Luck

After spending a $3,000 to rebuild my 90HP Mercury lower unit (twice) and having it blow up a third time I abandoned carbed 2 cycle motors. Once they get old they are too hard to keep running good. I got a brand new 115 Honda 4-stroke a couple years back for $6500. It is bar none the best boat motor I have ever owned.

Shop around.

You can get a good idea of motor values by looking in the nada guides web site. If I were in the market for a used motor, I'd call around to different dealerships. They nearly all have a few loose motors setting around. One of them just might have what you want.

Good luck
