Good afternoon folks. Today was the last time I get to fish until after the boat show. I would love to meet you, so please stop by the Castaway Booth. There will be a ton of great products and outfitters at the show. I am sure there is a little something for everyone, so bring that Christmas money and get that one thing you have waited all last year to buy. Now on to the report: Today was an interesting day. I dropped the boat in around 6:45 to cold conditions. Not terribly cold, but cold none the less. I motored my way into the river and made a beeline for a deep hole that I had been marking on previous trips. I was sure that the fish would be stacked on top of each other. Well, I was WRONG. I stayed there for almost an hour, and no one was home. Now within that hour I had ice on the deck of the boat, and at one point I could not reel the line in because it had frozen to the eyes. I guess it was colder than I thought! I got mad with the situation and decided it was time to stomp some older ground. So off I went to areas that had produced fish the two days before, and no one was home there either. Man, “what is it going to take to catch fish today,?” I thought to myself. I moved over to an area that was sand instead of mud bottom and managed to pick up two fish. By this time it was around 9:30 and I got a call from Mrs. Cathy. She told me that her husband was supposed to take her fishing this morning and instead had to go to work. So I ran up the river and picked her up. I told her it was slow and we would have to hunt for them today. We boarded the boat and headed back to the sand bar I had been working. We immediately put 3 more in the boat and things were looking up. The end total was 6 keepers 16-22 inches and a few throw backs. We caught a lot less small ones than previous days and I am not sure why that was. It was not a great day, but an okay day. What am I saying? Any day you can spend outdoors is a great day. The river is ready to explode with great fishing and I have openings after the boat show. Come on down and get you a little winter fishing Matagorda style. Until next time, shoot straight, keep a tight line, and introduce a kid to the great outdoors!
