Santa was good and we got a Lowrance 520C for xmas. Installed it with the transducer on the rear. When we got on the water the sonar does not work once moving. Guess the unit gets some disturbance from the boat. I want to install a different transducer in the boat but dan't figure out how the heck to get to the spot to install it. It is going in a 1989 tracker 1800TF. There is an old transduer mounted in there but I sure can't figure out how the heck someone got inthere to do it. Do you need to remove the livewells? remove all of the pumps and lines to the livewells? The unit is a joy when trolling or using the gps feature as this is a great upgrade for our old boat. Just want it to work moviong down the lake to look for structure.
Thanks for any suggestions.
The guy at BPS said to use silicone to mount not epoxy, any input on that also????

Not sure without pictures what your issue might be but it sounds like you have your transducer mounted somewhere that it is not getting a smooth water flow across it.
Another thing worth mentioning is follow the instructions in the Lowrance paperwork and it will get you pointed in the right direction.
Lastly, while I am not going to tell you that silicone won't work because it does and will but it is much harder to get all the air bubbles out of it vs epoxy. If you do use epoxy, which I recommend, then make sure you use the slow curing stuff as the fast curing stuff also will difficult to get the air bubbles from forming.
Good luck, take your time and most importantly follow the directions.
You might check the ping speed. i doubt if you changed it even on accident but there may be something wrong besides the depth you have your transducer set at.
IS THE CENTERLINE OF TRANSDUCER EVEN W/HULL BOTTOM?DID YOU MOUNT THE TRANSDUCER WHERE IT HAS A SMOOTH FLOW OF WATER AT ALL SPEEDS?THE BACK OF YOUR TRANSOM IS AT MUCH HIGHER ELEVATION AT FULL OR EVEN HALF THROTTLE.IT GETS A LITTLE TRICKY BECAUSE THE PERFECT LOCATION WILL BE IN PATH OF TRAILOR BUNK SOMETIMES.MOUNT IT TOO LOW AND YOUR IN PATH OF PROP,TOO HIGH AND YOUR OUT OF WATER AT SPEED CAUSING THE AIR BUBBLES WHICH CAUSES THE BLANK SCREEN.DRAWBACK W/INSIDE HULL MOUNT IS A LOSS OF SENSITIVITY AND NO ADJUSTING ANGLES TO RECIEVE THOSE PERFECT ARCHES.BUT FOR SOME HULLS TRANSOM MOUNTING JUST DOES NOT WORK OUT RIGHT.YOU COULD BE WITHIN A 1/4IN.OF WHERE YOUR AT NOW FROM BEING PERFECT,SO STUDY YOUR LOWRANCE INSTALL BOOK.DO NOT USE SILICONE IF U MOUNT INSIDE JUST SAND YOUR AREA WELL AND YOUR TRANSDUCER AS WELL.AS JUDD HAS TOLD U CORRECTLY USE A SLOW CURE EPOXY AND 1/4 TURN AS YOU MASH INTO PLACE THEN PLACE A BRICK ON TOP AND LET CURE 2 DAYS.
Thanks for the assistance. I went out and bought a thru hull transducer and mounted it. My thought is, eventually I will buy the switch and have both mounted. Use the thru hull when moving and the rear mounted when going slow or trolling.
My current problem is that when I hook the new thru hull transducer to the 520 the screen scroll is VERY slow. When I hook back up the rear mounted on it, it scrolls like what I think normal would be.
Any thoughts or suggstions would be greatly appreciated.
I mounted with the epoxy that came with the transducer in the well of the boat where the old hummingbird transducer was mounted. Sanded and followed instructions in package.
HEY AB.GLAD YOU INSTALLED WITH EPOXY.WITHOUT ME LOOKIN AT YOUR RIG,I THINK YOUR 89 MODEL HAS WOOD THERE WHERE U INSTALLED TRANSDUCER.IF THE OLD PUCK WAS TO A FLASHER THEY ARE NOT EFFECTED BY WOOD.I REALLY WANT U TO TRY PLAYING WITH A BETTER LOCATION FOR YOUR TRANSOM MOUNT.LIKE I MENTIONED EARLIER YOU MAY BE CLOSER THAN U THINK TO A CORRECT INSTALL AT SPEED.YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT CRPLUMBINGCO@AOL.COM THANKS
Thanks for all the help.I did intstall the thru hull and moved the rear mounted transducer. Got out for a quicky fishing trip today with my son and both of them now work. We are in fishing heaven.
