Well, really the rant is about Bank of America, since they're the card issuer. When I got my card a few years ago from Bass Pro, the issuing bank was MBNA, which apparently merged or sold to Bank of America. Since the switch, I've gotten no less than three rate change notices from BofA saying that my rate was going from 9.9% to 24.99% (each time I've sent a letter to opt out & keep my original interest rate).

The first time I got the notice, I called the bank to find out what was going on - first thing that went through my head was that I'd been hit with identity theft or credit fraud or such. The "manager" I spoke with assured me that the rate increase was across the board for all their BPS visa card customers & had nothing to do with my personal credit history etc.

Now the funny thing is that these "across the board" rate increases started hitting at about the same time that BofA quietly started issuing credit cards and making mortgage loans to illegal aliens. I've had subsequent conversations with BofA employees, and the bits of information I was given suggest that they're using these higher interest rates on their legal customers to subsidize the losses on their illegal customers while they figure out this kind of lending.

My last letter to them stated that the only reason they still have me as a customer is because of my loyalty to BPS (and the BPS points you get for using the Visa card! lol). Also told them that this is an opportunity to unscrew their policies and reconsider who their long-term income is going to come from.

Sadly, they haven't sent me any reply other than to say my new interest rate is now only 9.9%.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest ...

I have been contemplating closing all my accounts with Bank of america because of their adapted policies. Guess this may be the time to do it.

Bank Of America:

They are geared toward women and illegals

Alot of their Managers are women

And once they tried to give out CC to Illegals with no Social Security #, I lost all respect for the bank

I definitely don't like what I am hearing above but I don't really have any problems with BOA as far as my personal dealings with them. One time they made a mistake on one of my deposits but found and fixed it on the spot while I waited.

They have also given me better Money Market interest rates just be me asking...

That said I also don't carry any balance on credit cards so I don't have to deal with interest. I mainly use Discover to pay everything and get reward points so we can get free stuff like Blockbuster rentals and/or free dinners...etc...

I try to work it so they pay me...not the other way around.

Hardrain, I carry quite a bit of credit card debt, but it's all at their fixed rate 'for life of the balance' promotions. so currently the highest CC interest rate I have is 4.99%. It's just the principle of the thing to me - if a bank wants to raise my interest rate based on MY credit score, or because of MY pattern of credit use, I can understand.

BUT, I don't cotton to a lender charging me a usurious interest rate to subsidize loans made to illegal aliens. That's my gripe.

When I interned at Bank of America here in Dallas they were only concerned with finding women with MBA's at the time. Seriously, all my boss did was look for women with MBA's and interview them day in and day out...

Which I thought was weird, but.. apparently BOA rather have their name in the "Top Companies for Women" list than worry about finding the best canidate for the job.

You can get a BPS rewards card that is not a credit card. You just have to go to the customer service counter and ask for it.

That is what I did. I did not want another credit card that I would only use at BPS. So, I asked if I could get just a rewards card, and they said no problem.

I have been banking with BOA since I moved to Texas, but in the last few years, I have really begun to dislike their services. In fact, I have moved nearly all my banking elsewhere and just have a small checking account with them now.

We dumpaed BofA five years ago.

They advertised free checking w/ direct deposit. We were being charged $9.00 a month

Asked why and the guy said we had to carry a $2000 balance.

So: I have to let you hold $2000 of my money so I can save $9.00?

Had been a customer for 12 years and they could care less.

Switched checking, two car loans, two credit cards, and a mortgage.

Now (Much like At&T) they constantly try to get me back

Triton is correct. BofA is the devil. Any of you who choose to do business with them are saying that their practices are OK. Simply put, they are not OK and no one should deal with them. Vote with your feet.

The solution is to carry no credit card debt. I did this two years ago. If I cannot pay for it I did not buy it. I now only carry gas cards and a debit card...I found out how much interest I was paying. If you check it out it will make you very ill.

sorry but you still need a credit card to travel. Hotel rooms, airfare, rental cars...they want credit cards. The secret is to ALWAYS pay them off each month. I have a debit card to a checking account with overdraft protection from a savings account and one credit card that always gets paid off each month. So far so good.

Maybe they've changed their policies...might be time to give Hertz another chance. ;-)

OTOH: I sort of like the interest free loan a credit card gives you...lets that expenses check get here before you have to actually pay.

Also, BOA has started to support the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Talk about supporting a anti-hunting group.

ALL banks do the exact same thing as BOA...since BOA is so large, they get called out on it. I have had zero problems with them and I have been a customer for 12 years.
