Now that the regular season has ended, it is time to reflect on which Cowboys had less than a stellar year. Keep in mind that ALL of these guys (Julius Jones, Spears, Canty, Roy Williams) predicted that they were going to BLOSSOM once they got out from under the tyranny of the Big Albacore. Didn't happen.
Julius Jones - very disappointing year for this Notre Damer. Hopefully he'll do better with his next team.
Marcus Spears - 1st round pick out of a big school (LSU), 3rd year in the league and he's just not an impact player.
Chris Canty - an immense physical presence (6'7", 300 lbs), was a star in his rookie camp but is now just an average player.
Roy Williams - "Wade will turn me into another Shawn Merriman." He was supposed to turn back into the Old Roy and be more of an impact player by playing closer to the line, yet they have now resorted to hiding him defensively because he gets exposed on the passing plays. Thank God we had Ken Hamlin this year.

i would rather see keith davis get some playing time than having to watch roy williams. in case you missed it roy-boy struck again by whiffing on the running back allowing the redskins to score their first touchdown yesterday. at least he got a good should hit in on Ken Hamlin.

I could live with Roy not being an impact player, JUST DONT BLOW COVERAGE!!!!!!!
He is soley responsible for probably 7-10 touchdowns this year in coverage!!!!
Get rid of him, we would be a really solid unit if we could get that position fixed!

Get rid of him, we would be a really solid unit if we could get that position fixed! I could handle blown coverage if the guy would just make critical tackles. Really....the lines he takes now are just riduclous. It's like if he can't make the big hit on someone who is not expecting it, he can't tackle. And now that he can't horse-collar either....he's got nothing. I think Hamlin has brought much more to the backfield than Williams has this year. Dump Williams.

Get rid of RW and JJ. I would prefer to keep Canty and Spears. Thanks for playing though! It's pretty nice to be able to talk about getting rid of some pretty good players. I'm sure there are some teams that would love to have JJ and RW.

I think we should get rid of JJ and get a stud fullback!!!
I know Hoytee is a pretty solid player, dont get me wrong! If we had a good full back that could block and catch (someone maybe a little smaller than witten) We could have HUGE success running the ball.
I know, the cowboys are not a "I" formation team, but it would be nice to have a fullback like like the Mouse!

here's a cowboy bust for ya As for the ones originally stated, I'd keep Canty and Spears....the other two are disposable.......with WIlliams spiraling down in value rapidly

LOL Do not have time for the THF. We could use an upgrade in his slot. He is good but we could do better.

I still say you give Julius the ball 20+ times a game, he'll break one. Break what... a leg? He goes down easier than any back I have ever seen.

Canty and Spears aren't too bad. Better than a lot of alternatives that are out there. they still could improve though.

I still say you give Julius the ball 20+ times a game, he'll break one. Thus bringing his average up a ton. Watch next year depending on what team he goes to.
Canty, verdicts still out.
The other two spares through and through. Right....give Julius Jones the ball 20+ times a game and he'll break one and get stuffed on the other 19. You have to have a running back that can CONSISTENTLY pickup yards....especially when you REALLY need him to come through. Juliet Jones runs like he's always looking for a place to lay down. Put him with any other team and he'll do there what he's done here.......nothing.

I agree we should get rid of JJ ASAP! I like Canty. In fact I think we could use a 4 man line sometimes with him and Tank as the tackles!
I also wonder why we couldn't move RW to outside LB!

I also wonder why we couldn't move RW to outside LB! That sounds pretty good. I like the 3-4 defense, but there are times when it would be good to have a little more heft up on the line. As far as R.Williams playing linebacker..... 1. At 6' and around 230, he's too light. No way he can stand up to 300lb. tackles. 2. I haven't seen him make more than a handful of real stops this year. Seems like, unless he's blindsiding someone or running someone down from behind and horse-collaring them, he can't get it done. Some of the lines he's taken on tackles this year have been pathetic......junior high stuff. If he's going to be played at all, it should be on short-yardage situations....2nd and short....3rd and short....but even then....why not just bring in another linebacker? Cowboys need to cut their losses with R. Williams. He's outlived his usefulness.

Julius has had enough attempts in his career in Dallas to be legit back. He's had enough of a line to have shown the will to break a few tackles and use his speed to over come some bad plays. How many big plays has he delivered?
Before you get rid of Spears or Canty, you should look at the number of plays played and production.
I really think these guys contribute, I really think these guys would look better with some more meaner Linebackers.
Which LB is our "LT", our Junior Seau, our Zack Taylor, our Joey Porter, Ray Lewis????
I think if you look at great defenses, you had leaders on the D-line, from the linebackers, and in the secondary, thus, you had team defense.
Jordan, Howley, Lewis, Hollywood Henderson, Bruining, Norton, and even Dexter Coakley, even though no titles, always found a way to get an occassional INT.
Dallas needs some dominate LBers, and some speed in the secondary.
I think we have good rotation on the front line, and good role players.
I think we need to get free agent or draft dominating LineBacker, and upgrade some speed in the secondary.
We have two first round draft picks, money below the cap, and talent to trade with.
We are a few players away from being dominating team for years with some luck from injury plagues.
I am strong Longhorn fan, Roy was dream come true after haunting UT and me for 4 years. I have seen him flash brilliance at times. But, as of late, he's become more of a liability than productive.
It goes like this. Flozell protects Romos blind side, and has done so nicely for the most part. Flozells production out weighs his penalties. He stays for now. Roy has no big plays to outweigh his poor play.
He's trade bait for trading up for best player in draft to help us on the defense. I'm not sure his salary is moveable to another team without compensation, plus his salary goes on the cap if no takers.
Heres whats the best scenerio for Dallas, Roy becomes great special teamer. Back up Linebacker/backup saftey. And they re-work is contract.
