Awesome day to be out on the lake! 63 degrees and light wind. caught this little 24" 4.5lbs channel cat on a 5' UL and 6lb test and one of my crappie jigs. thought i had a record crappie or big bass. this cat didnt roll at all.

just realized after looking at the grapevine lake records i have the channel cat record but hes sittin in my refrigerator. happy but mad at the same time. just figured the lake record was bigger than 4.5lbs.

I hate it when that happens , nice work buck, we went out Sat.A.M. for kittys and got skunked . I hate it more when that happens. Talked to a couple of other guys and they didn't do much better. I guess I'm not as smart as I thought .

Yep, it was better than working. Oh yeah my fishing buddy is the present record holder on the Vine for a channel. We were in my boat when he caught it so I tried to convince him it belonged to me but he didn't see it that way . I e-mailed your post to him. Im sure he's tickled pink that its in your freezer. I think the record before that was only a little over 2 lbs. That shocked us both but then we found out why it lasted that long . Finding a certified scale to weigh it on was a major ordeal . He ended up taking it to the BPS in Garland to get a certified weight. He then found out you can get your own scales certified but it will cost you a chunk of money .

the bass pro in grapevine doesnt have one? i would have got it certified but i just figured the record was bigger than 4.5lbs. but net time i will know!

I can't remember if they didn't have one or it wasn't working. I know he did check out there.

Yep, we'll be there and hopefully I don't embarass myself. I've never fished in a kitty tourney, but my partner has been in a couple. We were thinking after hiring a guide on Christmas eve and doing well that we would go out Sat. and kill them . Well we were the only ones to get killed. Sometimes your the bug, and sometimes your the windshield. Sat. we were the bug . Just when you've got the answers, they change the questions. You gonna be there?

i doubt it i dont fish for catfish enough on grapevine to even know where to start or have a chance.

not many of us fish grapevine much for cats thats the fun of it!
fishing lakes that we dont fish all the time.....come on its alot of fun and nobody should ever get embarassed we just fish and hope the big one bites our line! I fished last month and we spun a prop but still stayed around for the weigh in and fun....there's a bunch of great guys out there and all are friendly ....

what tourn?where can i get info?

Just went through the emotional "Maybe I have a lake record" dance yesterday at Lewisville ... started thinking about certified scales, etc and learned that finding a certified scale is tougher than one would expect.

However, I didn't fillet the fish till I knew it wasn't close to the record ;-)

bps in grapevine has cert scales up to 200 pounds, garland is 40.

And sorry to say, but monday pre-fishing I caught a 5.5lb channel, and am in the process of getting all the paper work done. Lots of good fish to be caught out there. I fished it sun, and monday, lots of fish, biggest 28lbs. See ya there.

senko9S, do you know who to talk to at BPS? I called BPS in Grapevine last week and they said they only have certified scales up to 20 lbs - I drove all over town w/ a 58 lb blue - hit all the sports stores (BPS, Academy, Sportsmen's Warehouse, Cabela's, Lewisville barge, Lewisville Game Warden, Lewisville wholesale bait on Mill Street) - no certified scales for over 50 lbs. - So if you have a name @ BPS in Grapevine, I would be very appreciative.

I took a drum to BPS in Grapevine & David was the one that handled the fish & safely released it into the pond in front of the store.

That was last year, but if call first & ask for him then someone should point you in the right direction

BTW - the drum was 4.69 lbs & the lake record was 5.0 (just missed it)

the 28lber was a blue, I think we ended up catching 40+ fish, 10 over 10lbs. Go_cats_go, just ask for someone in the fishing dept. That is who I spoke to.

You can get your own scale certified for $60 at a place in forth worth. I've got a certified 120# scale

Whats the name or location of this place? A friend of mine found a guy that will do it but he wants alot more than $60.
