Man, I don't know what all the whining about yesterday was, I was beautiful here in God's country today. Light southernly breeze, nice warm sun shine, fish er well it was a pretty day.
I saw the usual cast of characters, Dwayne and Tammy were there as well as the new catfish drifter Parker.
I did manage to locate and catch a limit of sand bass, and one shoooort hybrid.
I did see Jackie Kennedy out looking for cats, you better get on the list to fish with him.
Omar homesteaded the long ridge so there had to be fish there. I caught several at the twin poles and quite a few it the 3 white jugs. Most of the fish I caught were in 19' to 24' of water. They bit very light but didn't care what size or color of slab was offered.
Quite a difference in the size of the crowd from the summer months, I did count 5 boats on the long ridge.

Look at the bright side, you didn't go through a lot of bait, you can take it home and let the girls play with it.

fastguy,

Yep there were a lot of fish on Long Ridge. I saw you move over to the key ranch area and form the time you spent there I was figuring you had fish under you as well.

I had a nice couple with me that have been with me several times. They caught a lot of big sandies and we missed a lot more with that light winter bite. We didn't keep any smaller than 13" except for one around 11.5' that was hooked too deep to release.

We fished hard and got their limit of Whotes but could not get the Hybrids to go. We tried dead sticking Bass Assasins but they never showed up.

We caught a few fish of of Merrimac and Pitts Point. Most of our fish were on 1/2 ounce Holiday chartreuse slabs on light tackle. That was fun! Our fish came form the same depths that fastguy mentioned. We even caught a few from as deep as 30'

Happy New year Everyvbody!

thanks fastguy for your great reports.

Is there any place you would recommend at Cedar Creek for people without a boat to fish? Like piers or marinas, or just plain bank fishing? I would like to go there and take my 14 yr old. Maybe he could latch on to a big white or striper.

Man, I had to work and have a bout with the flu as well. OH well, nobody wants me as a guide this time of year anyway. Who ever said I could catch fish in January?

Cedar Creek is tough to fish from the bank as nearly all of the shoreline is privately owned. I do see a lot of folks fishing near the bridges on US 175 but my guess is catfish, there are folk fishing from the 198 bridge between GBC and Payne Springs and on the bridges that span the Caney Creek and the Clear Creek Arms of the lake.
