Just curious who has caught walleye out of Cedar Creek? It would have taken some folks that fished it back "in the day."

1977 was the last year they stocked any walleye in Cedar Creek - that's why those blue cats are so big in there!
Walleye stockings in DFW area lakes:
Arlington - 1975, 1976
Bridgeport - 1974, 1975, 1984, 1992
Cedar Creek - 1975, 1976, 1977
Cypress Springs - 1970, 1971, 1972
Eagle Mountain - 1973, 1974, 1975
Grapevine - 1975, 1976
Lavon - 1976
Lewisville - 1972, 1973, 1974
Ray Hubbard - 1976, 1981
Tawakoni - 1975

they cross bred themselves out with the yellow bass. we ended up with a tastier larger version of the yellow bass.........

We caught several at Ray Hubbard along the dam in the early eighties. If I remember right the fish were about 12-14 long that were caught. They are tough on the finger when you try to lip em. OUCH!!!!! But fried are pretty good eating. Havent heard of one being caught in a long time.

They did not survive the summer months very well here in the Dallas area. The water got to hot for them. At least that is what I was told by a friend of mine that works for TPWD. Don't know if it is true.

First thing they will do is head for any current they feel - like a dam releasing water. Thru the dam they will go and then the heat probably got them once they left the deeper cooler water. The ones that stayed in the lake probably died from lack of cooler water as well. Walleye (world record is 22-lb. 11-oz from Greer's Ferry in Arkansas, caught in March up one of the feeder rivers during the spawn) are more of a river run fish than lake resident. They might actually make it in the Canyon Lake/Guadalupe River system. I think trout live in this system all year around...I may be mistaken. Stocking walleyes, northerns and tiger muskie back in the 70's was a trial and error type thing when Larry Ramsell lived in Belton, TX for a few years and convinced TP&W to try the program in a few select lakes. Nocono Lake had a lot of tiger muskie stocked in it back in the 70's - even though it's more "north" than many of the other Texas lakes stocked, they still didn't survive. Tiger muskie (cross between a northern pike and pure muskie - world record is 50-lbs.)

i knew a guy that caught one in lake athens way back when. he was the only one that caught any of them that were stocked that anyone knew of.

I caught one at Grapevine when I was kid, had no idea what it was at the time. Typical night time crappie fishing, sleeping across the seat with the line around my finger. Got woke up by the bite, reeled it to the top and started to lip it, then I saw the teeth. Was probably around a 2 pounder....guess it woulda been the lake record.

TPWD has determined that the water below Canyon Lake is cold and oxygenated enough to support trout year round. They have been reports that they are able to spawn as well. As a consequence for a few miles below the dam is artificial only for trout. Another consequence is BIG striper eat these trout. Use rainbow trout redfins and walk the bank after the winter trout stockings and you might get a double digit striper on.
They stocked Canyon with walleye also, but never heard of any caught below the dam, too bad, they would make a good mix in that cold water environment.

Yea, I dont beleive the lakes are really deep enough or cold enough for them. I dont beleive they are that of a very deep water fish, but that would probably be the only way to get them to live.
I want to see more redfish in our lakes. I know they will eat a lot of game fish, but at the same time, I think I would rather have a 5lb redfish on rather than a 5lb bass

I HAVE FISHED Cedar Creek from bank and caught some yellow bass and wanted to know what is the limits on that lake (size/size)? don't know if it is same as other lakes (no limit/size).
this is the only lake i have ever caught big yellow bass.

LOVNTREE - there's no limit on how many you can keep and there is no length limit (page 37 of the Texas 2007-2008 Outdoor Annual handbook).

I have never ate a yellow bass, I always released them. Are they decent to eat? I have heard yes, and I have heard no.

Yellow bass eat great!
Anybody fish Lake O' the Pines? I fished a tourney there about 10 years ago and a couple guys said they caught one in it. I never knew if it was true and just heard about it, then several others said they had caught them there before.
