Has anyone heard anything about plans to close Calaveras to fishermen? I've heard it from a couple of guys, but they had no details, only that its being kept hush-hush from the public. Something to do with using the lake only for power plant purposes. If there's any truth to it, could other power plant lakes soon follow suit?

I know of one here in the DFW area that is for power plant use only, so it doesn't seem unrealistic.

I was talking to a buddy down there the other day and he said because they are building a new plant they have a good chunk of the bank access cut off. As far as he knew they were going to run both plants, and no plans to make the lake any bigger or deeper. So fishing there will be pointless anyway it seems. All you'll pull out is a bunch of pre-cooked fish

I guess you could always stock it with peacock bass and redtail catfish

We went fishing there today. Took a young soldier and his fiance to fish and cook their catch. I asked the lady at the entrance and she said they were downsizing their services, not selling lures, baits, etc., but as far as she knew there were no plans to cut the fishing on the lake. Maybe, they haven't told her yet!!

I think they (SARA) are just looking for a way to bail out, and don't want to shut it down completely, and catch a lot of flack because of it.
I never thought I'd say it, but I think a private party taking over the concession, and facilities would be a better thing, than the way it's been run in recent years.
They never did much in the way of improvements, and upkeep has been less than stellar for a long, long time!
In this case, I think a change would be a good thing!

I sensed something was up a few months ago, that made me skeptical about why now, are they having those meetings, and wanting to do this, and that, to improve the lake, and the park, and then now these rumors surface about downsizing and closing?
Typical board room decisions seem to have been made, and I wouldn't doubt that there is some type of sale or deal being worked out to go private.
It's just my gut feeling on this, and after all San Antonio River Authority doesn't seem to be into the parks business.
At least they have obviously changed their priorities in recent years, with the lack of upkeep, and shortage of manpower personnel, and keeping the parks open 24-7, like in so many past years.
Look for some drastic changes coming this spring, mark my words!
