I almost peed myself laughing when i saw them selling boards to grill on in the bass pro catalog. Seems like this was an old joke taken seriously on accident or something.
Put fish on plank coat with seasoning then cook in oven. Throw fish away and eat plank.............

Cooking a fish on a plank is a survival procedure. The fish is split lentghwise (butterflied) and nailed to the plank and the plank set at an angle to the campfire so that the fish is cooked by convection. I read that some where in a survival guide book.

Nowadays I think that the most common thing that is cooked on a plank is fish. I believe that this is done because the fish doesn't stick and fall apart as if it were on the grill itself and you get a good smoldering smoke from the plank. The plank is also reusable.

Heck Parker, I saw you eating some of my World Famous Bert's Baked Beans at the TFF Bream Buster's Fish-Fry last year. If you will eat those, you will eat anything......

It doesn't have to be cedar. You can cook on several different types of wood plank. Soak the plank for about two hours, it will smolder and smoke up real nice. Fish doesn't have to be turned, doesn't stick... comes out pretty dang good. Just make sure the wood is untreated *wink* or you will regret it.

I haven't reused any of the planks I've grilled fish on. That's the only way I'll grill salmon. Some lemon pepper and dill weed. That's slap yo momma good right there.
