I live near Kidd Springs in Dallas (Oak Cliff). There's a little pond at this park, maybe two acres in size. I went out there today and threw some lines for about an hour. Weather was atrocious; windy and cold. I'm curious - has anyone fished here, and how was it? I plan to try again soon.

That little pond will be stocked with trout in January. check the tpwd website for the exact date.

There are some monster bass in that pond, along with plenty of smaller ones. Most of the big ones are VERY smart as far as bass go and are difficult to catch. They spawn very early (late february) and that is the best time to catch them. Please practice catch and release when bass fishing this pond.

My largest Black Bass to date (8 lbs) came from this pond. Hopefully she is still swimming. Tossed a spinner at her for 2 hours before she finally hit.

Back in '05 I actually took a bass that was just shy of 7 lbs out of Kidd Springs... while trout fishing!!! Landed her on my ultra-light rig with a rainbow trout colored rooster-tail. It was late in the stocking year, like March, and just like Kalub said, the bass were already spawning. Through pure luck I dragged over her nest, when she exploded on my lure only about 8 or 10 feet from me and the bank. I felt kinda bad when I got her out of the water and saw her swolen egg-belly. I put her back in the water and tried to give her some help, when she swam off she appeared to be okay. Last year I went back with trout imitating lures during early stocking season. Those bass DO love to gorge themselves on trout. I wouldn't go again after about February, having fish like I caught in an urban waterhole is too cool to screw up by hammering them during the spawn.

I absolutely plan to. I wouldn't take anything (except when the trout get stocked). Thanks for the updates.

Trout stocking tomorrow, 01/16/08

Rudy

Not big enough for a canoe. Sidewalk all the way around it, and you can cast to every corner of it

Being that this was stocked on the 16th, am I accurate that there will be a TON of people there on Saturday?

what time were you there?
i was there between 11 - 1:30. i was sitting on the damn in blue jeans and tan/camo fleece.

saw the poacher.... struck up a conversation with the hispanic guy next to me(casting across me) about that guy poaching. he said the guy was there 4 times the day before. i mentioned taking the guy's picture if he came back and the hisanic guy clammed up, and proceeded to add more than 5 to his stringer.
then, his little asian buddy came back.... for 5 more, i assume.... i saw him leave with at least a limit before he came back.

i was afraid i would get my butt kicked, so i got out of there.

yes, gold super duper was the ticket. my silver one faired well..... i caught 20 or 25. kept the 5 biggest.
