AUSTIN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: March 20-22, 2008
The SEVENTH annual AUSTIN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (ATC): 2-person team format in Austin, TX.

Tournament Schedule
• Thursday evening March 20th: corn boil/social starting around 6:30 pm, in the rear parking lot, just behind the bank of suites. Yes, there will once again be HOOTERS wings, pizza, soft drinks.
• Friday morning we will meet in the hotel at 5am. Coffee, juice and sweet rolls upon presentation of coupon each morning. We will first draw for the order in which teams draw then each team will draw their own peg. Competition will begin at 6am and end at 7pm.
• Saturday we’ll draw pegs in the reverse order from Friday. Competition will resume at 6am and end at 7pm. At 8:30pm we will have the awards presentation, raffle drawing, auction, banquet, etc. This will be held in one of the banquet rooms at the Hotel, don’t miss the banquet festivities!

Logistics
• Entry fee of $120 per two-member team (this fee is NON–REFUNDABLE). T-shirts available at $20 each (please PRE- ORDER). Payment by check (please mail it with the entry form) or online via Pay-pal.
• Wyndham Garden Hotel (tel. # 1-800-966-3927) is where we are reserving rooms for people to stay. The social/corn boil and banquet will all be held here. It is located right off I-35 (Woodward Avenue Exit; this was the Woodward hotel & conference center). Please coordinate with other listed participants to split rooms and share costs. Room rates have been negotiated for our group at $89.00 per single or double, and $109.00 for a suite (suites accommodate 4). Please reserve room EARLY as the guaranteed bank of rooms is only good until February 18th, after that it is subject to Hotel availability. Please go ahead and book your room as soon as you can, you MUST mention that you are with the CARP ANGLERS GROUP to attain this rate. If you have any problems ask to speak to Samantha
• Avis Rental Car http://www.avis.com

DIRECTIONS FROM THE AIRPORT
Exit airport to the left on HWY 71. Keep proceeding towards I-35 south, you will actually go 7 miles and take a right on Woodward Street. Continue on Woodward until you get to I-35 and the hotel is on the right.
• Texas Fishing Licenses are required; you may purchase them by phone at (800) 895-4248. Or online at: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/licenses/online_sales
• Licenses are also sold at Wal-Mart, Academy, and other sporting goods stores.
• If you would like to fish prior to the tournament we can recommend areas that will be permitted. Austin Lake has a campground (Emma Long) and it is a very similar type of venue (see rules). Room rates are good for 3 days prior to the event, and 3 days after the event. You can ship your equipment to the Hotel, and they will store it for you up to 3 days prior to the event, the gear MUST have your name and arrival date on it!

Rules:
• No pre-fishing in Town Lake from Sunday through the start of the event. Anyone seen not complying with this will disqualify his or her team from the competition and the entry fee will not be refunded. All participants are allowed to plumb and research the lake; this includes the use of SMART CASTS.
• All of the city park rules must be observed.
• Only Cyprinus Carpio count for total weight and big fish (no buffalo, grass carp, Old tires, tennis shoes etc.)
• ONCE AGAIN, a special award for the biggest Buffalo (any variety) will be presented.
• Each two-person team may fish anywhere within half the distance of opposing team pegs, including pegs on the other side of the lake (you must however be in the same COUNTY).
• Each team must have 1 set of accurate scales to be checked/verified before the event begins (this will be done at the Corn Boil).
• Each team must have 1 net that provides a safe way to land fish. Nylon knotted nets will not be allowed.
• Each team must have a well-padded unhooking mat and weigh sling.
• 6 rods per team.
• One hook per rod and no treble hooks, double hooks, or grenades allowed.
• Fish must be weighed and then verified by an opposing team member or steward. Please return fish to the water promptly, after taking your photo(s). Only one fish per sack, if necessary.
• Boats will not be allowed during the event.
• If a fish is hooked before the competition ends there will be a 15-minute extension time limit allowed to land the fish.
• Any foul hooked fish will not count; all captures must be hooked in the mouth area.
• You must be a CAG member to participate in the ATC - join here.

Special commemorative pins and another little gift are part of the registration fees. You’ll see what that is when you register. Additional Banquet tickets are available at an $18.00 fee; all registered participants will get a banquet ticket as part of the registration fee.

Anyone planning to go but not fish, let me know if you want to be a Steward, or help in any capacity. We'll be pegging some pegs that are known to produce, but have not always been pegged because of the distance from other pegs. We will need Stewards to witness the weighing of fish at remote pegs, and any help the Brigade can lend will be appreciated.

You would still just be going down to hang out and socialize, I would just call you if a remote peg needed a weigh-in.

Thanks,

Chad

At one time I had planned on going, hanging out, but not fishing the event.

I *will* be fishing the event. Current plans are for Team Jack@ss to show up again.

Anyone on the fence, the corn boil itself if worth it.

I'll try not to show up to the peg draw still drunk this time.

You mean you will try to show up for the peg draw.. I am considering attending AND competing.. and leaving the high octane beer at home. the other option is staying at Emma and just going to the parties... I guess it depends on who I can get to fish it with me. Here's hoping Frank is back in action in time to supply my bait..

Hey, I showed up the first day.

And yes, the big beers will stay here.

A few shiners, or better yet some hefe's and I'll be set.

As Bret said, I'm pretty sure Team Jack@ss will be there again...

However...I completely and totally expect the "big beers stay at home" rule to fall by the wayside long before March...

Actually...No, I don't. Because last time I was the only one who brought Big Beer...and yet, Bret still had to take a Taxi to the swim on the second morning...

Hehehehe.

I will be there again this year. Just an observer. I had a great time meeting all the people.

Starless, one of the best selections of imported beer in Austin is just a couple of blocks from the hotel. ;\)

Scott, I could probably be convinced to go and maybe we could partner. We would be Team NEWB. Well, at least I would be.

Nice call, Vanboom. I'll have to check it out if I get a chance.

Looks like they had a real nice feature last month:

BEER OF THE MONTH for November 2007:
All Bear Republic Brews

$3.99

One of the best up and coming new Microbreweries I've discovered in a while. ( Actually Bret discovered it. )

Hard to be the Whole Foods flagship store's beer selection, though!

Mike/Scott - Team Newb would be perfect. You might win on karma alone.

Team Heathen is good. LOL

Yeah, I'm not familiar with the FPE.

Team Blank, since that's definitely what I do best.

Team Ghetto...we show up with some zebco 404's and three cans of sweet corn per person. No pods, no alarms...just sticks stuck in the mud.
