If your looking for a decent price. Check out academy, They sometime have rod riots this time of year. Just a heads up they might not last that long. I would invest in some good gear if you plan on fishing alot.

Welcome to the TFF!
Penn makes a good starter ROD for about 75 bucks (slammer series,
7', 20-50#, spinning)
and Cant go wrong w/ a Penn 850ssm loaded w/ 65# braid.
probably cost you less than $200 total, catch 90% of the fish
you'll be after in your first year, and will probably last until you're ready to upgrade, providing you don't abuse it.
hope this helps
tight lines
-Brian

This question is way to vague to answer.

Give us some more info.

Naw, it's just harder to think like a beginner once you've been deluged w/ useful information. suddenly the simple stuff doesn't seem to work anymore......

Daiwa Inshore 7'6 M and then mount a Penn Captiva.

That would be a nice sturdy easy to maintain setup.

If you want to go with a baitcasting setup then I would looking into a Daiwa Inshore or All Star GT40X. For a reel go to Ebay and look for a Shimano 200CU Bantam (Green) if you are left handed look for the 201CU.

I'll double that All-Star GT-40x. I love that rod
7' m/h casting, use it for Reds, stripers, snapper, blackfin......

I don't know your location, but the combos at Fishing Tackle Unlimited are what I use. And they come with a lifetime warranty, which is good for me!
