We have 2 small ponds on the bike trails near our house here in my area. I have caught several nice bass and channel cat in them over the last 15 years. Luckily only the locals like me seem to know it. I heard someone caught a double digit bass in the larger of the two ponds last year.

I thought I left a big enough clue in my Location. It would take some of the fun out of the hunt for everyone if I gave coordinates. Google maps can be very revealing. I hope Bill Dance doesn't show up now that I let the cat out of the bag.

This may be of interest to those who fish these small ponds.
The area I am refering to has 2 ponds on it, a larger one above the other seperated by a road\dam. These are some answers to some messages I've been getting.
1-Which pond has the largest fish? - The big one has the largest fish in it. Fish tend to grow to fit their environment. When I catch a good one from the small one I take it over to the big one and release it. 2-What lures? - Any bait will do if you pay attention to the seasons and water, just like in any lake. The color will depend on water clairty. Just fish it like you were on any lake. 3-Do they survive? - They actually thrive in these ponds. They come from a very competative environment to a virutal buffet of things to eat and most people ignore such ponds. The city has aeriators and fountains to promote the freshness of the water.

Some of these local ponds hold some HUGE carp in them as well, usually a very small, healthy population of larger fish. That sort of population definitely helps the bass popuation, as I've seen some huge bass come from the same carp ponds.

Though I got pissed at one guy I saw taking about a 6lb largemouth out.

I would be pissed too. Why take him out? Release him and catch him in a year or two when he might be a record!

Yeah, exactly. I was definitely more interested in the carp fishing as they fight much, much harder, but I hate to see real large fish of any species removed from a small body of water that doesn't have a very high population of them.

Starless, are you guys fishing this weekend anywhere? It would be fun to learn a little carp fishing. Only caught 1 in my life and they fight harder than anything I have ever caught...Albeit I'm not a saltwater fisherman.

I fished the two ponds in flower mound. I used to live close to them. There are actually 3 ponds. The third pond hold some huge bass. its not close to the two with the road in between them. I heard rumors the they were going to demolish most of the two that BigMac is talking about and put an old folks home in there. I think I may go out the and fish the ponds again soon.
