It isn't bad on the north end of the creeks. I have fished it in the past but do not like putting my boat on it due to the changing lake silt.

GREW UP OVER THERE, BE CAREFUL ON THE BIG LAKE, I LIKE TO PUT IN AT THE BOAT DOCKS IN KINGWOOD, FISH UP TOWARD HWY 59, LOTS OF LAYDOWNS, SANDY POINTS, SHALLOW AND DEEP. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE IS LUCIUS BAYOU (PROBABLY SPELLED WRONG) BE CAREFUL IN THERE, GOOD LM BASS ACTION.IF YOU LIVE IN KINGWOOD, YOU KNOW WHERE FOREST COVE IS,OVER BY THE FOREST COVE SWIMMING POOL OFF HAMBLEN ROAD IS A SMALL LAKE,THEY USE TO LET ME PUT MY BOAT IN BEHIND THE APARTMENTS, THAT PLACE IS INCREDIBLE FOR BASS FISHING,NOBODY MESSES WITH EM. GOOD LUCK.

Lake Houston is a very good crappie and catfish lake. However, black bass are much harder to come by.

It's been years but the Luce Bayou used to be pretty good bass fishing. I've caught some 5lb fish and smaller in that area. The old pea patch was good fishing in the spring but you have to watch the shallow water!!! Very shallow in places right out in the middle of a cove. The channel was deep back then.

Anyone do any good on Lake Houston today ( 12/1/07)? Haven't fished there all year and think I may go tommorrow. Last time I went, caught a few in Luce's and a couple of cuts up the east fork.

well i have fished houston normally 2 or 3 days a week for past few years and in a good day during summer we will land 40-50....we struggled really really hard for those fish....for the houston regulars (i dont think many get on here) they know what im talking about...u wont catch alot of big fish but can catch lots of small 13-14" fish when lake is right...have had a few good 15-18# limits but FEW and FAR between....good pattern in summer is look for shad and throw chrome/black traps...those fish just stack up on ledges pushing bait up and down the shallow bars...can make for some fun times...i personally have never caught a fish over 5 pounds on that lake but buddy has 2 6's and found a 8 floating dead swallowed a crappie...those fish are rare real real rare

I got a 5-15 on 12-3-07 back in Luces Bayou on a Booyah Buzzbait buzzed through a laydown. Picked up (2) more right around (3) lbs on the same shoreline within 100 yards of the 5-15. Water temp was 67 degrees under a mostly cloudy sky. All on the buzzbait!

I could be called a Lake Houston regular. But I have never done as well as Quack on that lake. I used to fish tournaments on Lake Houston and 12-13# sacks is what it would normally take to win. There are good fish in Lake Houston, but I have caught only one over 5#. Now that there will not be any of those Saturday tournaments on Lake Houston the fishing should improve. For years those fellas have been working that lake over on those Saturday tournaments. There were some really good sticks that fished those tournaments. There is so much buck brush you could just about wear yourself out pitching at them. I caught that 5#'er on a lizard, and thought I had hooked into a downhill freighttrain. She had a gut on her, and was in good condition when I released her.

Hey Quack,

Where is long pole cove? Is it right off of the lake or is it up the east fork a little ways? I may have fished it, but I did not know if by that name. Is it a community hole? or is secret spot?

man i honestly think my group of buddies and i call it long pole..its really kinda hidden up the river a pretty good ways...i personally have never caught anything good in there but have had buddies in the front/back of the boat catch good fish right with me...alot of the big name people run in there and fish...have seen ricky, the twins, newberry and a few flw boats in there...hell i personally know mike mclelland knows about it...i talked to him about it for over an hour one day up at rayburn..he happens to fish with jason another guy that fishes houston alot..i could try to explain to u where its at but all i can really say is its on the left hand side past caney in a spot where the river turns hard to the right...its across from the island that is on the right...if u have an idea where im talking about...LOT of stumps under the water in there that u can't see...those seem to hold the fish...we did catch some real well few months ago on the outside of long pole on a jig....caught 7 or 8 in a 50 foot stretch of bank...river swings in close in certain area...they were there...

"a few flw boats in there"? Has some of the guys that fish FLW fish lake houston? or did I misunderstand?
I am not familiar with ricky, the twins or newberry, but they are probably pretty good sticks, do they fish anglers quest?
I may have to see if I can find long pole on a map, I didn't know that there was a caney creek on lake houston, but it sounds like a good spot to catch a limit.

sounds like a good area to put a limit in the boat. I was wondering how there was so many limits being brought to the scales when we would could manage only seven or eight pounds. That may be where some of the bigger stringers were coming from. I would not have guessed that FLW boys would fish lake houston, I would have thought they would rather fish rayburn, toledo or amistad. I appreciate the info on this creek, but it sounds like there are already enough people fishing this creek, I better find another area that holds fish in numbers that like.

There are a few FLW guys that fish Lake Houston every one thinks there is no fish in the lake but it can pump out some good sacks. I fish it and do pretty good all over the lake just keep fishing you will find out what to do. Lake Houston is a jack pot lake for some of the FLW boys but your chances are just as good if you get on them. They have to work at it as well.

i grew up fishing the lake and the river with my uncle who lived out in kingwood. we always did our best year round fishing in the river with black curly tail worms with the pink firetails, called em the good old lake houston secret, LOL. there are some good docks that are in 10-15 ft of water that are loaded with man made brush piles. i tell ya, fish live there year round! i would love to come out there and fish a tourney.

the bigger sacks are normally taken from the deep laydowns but only a few boats know about them honestly..i know 4 guys other than myself that know where they are..people i see fishing them regularly..everyone else pounds the banks which can still and will produce fish...i agree with grant there are alot of fish in the lake if u know how to fish it...took me and my buddies 3 years of fishing it regularly to know where we can normally go and catch a good 12 13 pound sack at...

I don't know where the lay downs are, but I figured someone must know something since they were bringing in double digit sacks at almost every tournament. I have seen some guys fish some "unusual" areas, but I am not sure if those were lay downs or just a brush pile.
