Not that we have a reputation up here on the " Giant Side " as the well deserved joints in East Texas, but most of us West Texans appreciate good BBQ.

Rudy's does not fall into that category. AWFUL !!!

Rudy's where?

I've only eatin at the original Rudy's (many times) and had some brought to me once from the Round Rock location. And it was always excellent. Can't speak for other locations.

My mother in laws... Sunday we went over there to celebrate my F-I-L's B-day and she served oven cooked BBQ that was drenched in Kraft Honey BBQ sauce! Took all I could do to down 3 slices!

Bubba's Barbecue in Eureka Springs was the worst.

The Dixie Pig outside Memphis was the second worst.

Sonny Bryan's (never been to the orginal) not too swift.

Dickey's - fair at best.

Clark's in Tioga was way overrated. No beter that the above mentioned...at least the day I tried it.

You have to look hard to find good BBQ in OK. Elmer's in Tulsa used to be very good until he passed away. The Badwich was awesome.

Wilson's "U Need No Teeth to Eat Our Beef" is usually pretty good.

Head Country in Ponca City used to be good but haven't been there in years.

Leo's in OKC is good. At least it used to be...it's been several years since I have been.

Rib Crib - not so good.

The worst down in McAllen has to be the Mesquite Grill. First, I had to wait 15 minutes before a waiter came to my table. I ordered brisket and he said they didn't have any. So I ordered Sausage. Then the waiter came back and said they had brisket. So I said "fine". About 15 or 20 minutes later he came out with a really nice looking piece of meat, but it looked like an ordinary piece of roast beef, with the sauce on the side. I mentioned that to the waiter, and he said, "oh, the sauce is what makes it barbecue." The young guy must of thought I was a yankee winter Texan. (I am NOT, I grew up in Big D and I have eaten my share of real, pit cooked BBQ in my day!) So I ate it, and it tasted like a piece of oven roasted meat with no flavor. I never went back there.

Yeah Al, I've been to a few places that advertised Bar-b-Q brisket and what I got was just like roast beef. Wasn't bad but it wasn't smoked brisket. Both places were in here in Texas. WTH are they thinkin?

Head country is still good. Great sauce. Never got to try elmers ( i grew up there), but Notty Pine was average. Not much choice in Tulsa.

Hey Davey,
Rudy's in Lubbock. Got food poisoning from the brisket and spent a couple o days talking to the great one on the big white throne.

Will never ever go back to Rudy's here ( or anywhere ) .

Don't know if I'd call it the worst, but The Salt Lick in Dripping Springs is WAAAAAY overrated. The drive is pretty though. Dull brisket, uninspired beans, bland sausage and just flat out weird potato salad. In both of the BBQ issues of Texas Monthly, when praises were being handed out for mains, sides and things that just made a location special, the best they could muster up for the Lick was that the building looked nice.

The worst I've had in Texas was at Clyde the Glides restaurant in Houston. The service was terrible and unfortunately, the BBQ was worse.

Having lived in the Bay Area for a while, I'll add the Texas BBQ place in Vallejo and Ernest's BBQ in Berkeley. Ernest's is very famous and featured on a few cooking shows, but it was terrible. The beef was boiled with no smokey flavor. It was another place that subscribed to the philosophy that the sauce makes it BBQ.

Spring Creek chain in DFW area.

OMG they called that BBQ. I guess people not from Texas might call that Q, but it was oven cooked and they have a smoker out front acting like they are actually cooking it in there. NOT!!!!

You know, I'm from OK, and I'll have to admit that there isn't much good BBQ there. Of course there are exceptions, but not many.
