A color GPS/Sonar unit under $500.00 is going to be hard to find, unless it is a clearance. You can get an Eagle Fishelite 480 that is a B&W GPS/Sonar unit for around $360.00 or step up to the 640C color unit for $570.00. I would recommend waiting a little longer and saving up some more money to step up to a Lowrance LMS-525C or better. The 525C sells for around $700.00 and I think Cabelas has some on sale for $650.00.

Buck07,
I've got a lowrance LMS 480, its B&W but it will do alot of things that I haven't figured out how to do. It's a nice unit but color would be nicer. You might keep in mind that the Eagle brands are basically the same as Lowrance except they don't have the flasher function that Lowrance has. Other wise they're pretty much the same but cheaper. Good luck keeping it below $500. Like already said getting one on clearance would probably be your best bet or Cabelas Bargin cave, which are ones that were returned for one reason or another. I've heard that Hummingbird has made great strides in quality especially with the side looking models. But pricey I think.

I second that. You will want to go with a color unit and I would save up for the Lowrance LMS-520C.

how do you like the lms 520c? Is the lms 525 any better? also do these high dollar things show more fish than lets say a X 75?
